Data Collection / Data Mining Expert (Quantico, VA)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Data Collection/Data Mining Expert to support a comprehensive range of data mining and collection tasks, focusing on both qualitative and quantitative data. The role will be responsible for identifying Service-level systemic trends within the Marine Corps' DOTMLPF domains and providing actionable insights through advanced data analysis techniques. The ideal candidate will be proficient with large datasets, Microsoft Power Platform tools, and other relevant software for data integration, analysis, and visualization.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Design and implement data collection strategies across various sources related to DOTMLPF domains.
  • Utilize data mining techniques to extract trends, patterns, and anomalies from large datasets.
  • Mine unit after action reports (AARs) from the Marine Corps Center for Lessons Learned (MCCLL) to identify trends, training gaps, and best practices.
  • Collect and analyze data from the Joint Lessons Learned System (JLLIS), TECOM MSC SharePoint sites, and other relevant systems.
  • Conduct data collection and mining from Marine Corps Training Information Management System (MCTIMS), Total Force Data Warehouse (TFDW), MCTFS, MCCRE, SLTE, and Defense Readiness and Reporting System (DRRS) within SIPR domain.
  • Develop interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Automate data collection and processing tasks using Microsoft Power Automate.
  • Create custom applications with Microsoft Power Apps to enhance reporting and data collection processes.
  • Leverage programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) for data integration and analysis.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and tailor efforts accordingly.
  • Document methodologies, data sources, and analysis results for reporting purposes.
  • Present findings and actionable recommendations to stakeholders through presentations and reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications:


  • US Citizen with ability to obtain/maintain federal clearance
  • 5+ years of proven experience in data collection and data mining (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Expertise in working with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps).
  • Solid understanding of data analysis techniques and statistical methods.
  • Experience with data integration and visualization tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • Ability to create clear and insightful data visualizations and reports.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in the defense or government sector preferred.
  • Familiarity with DOTMLPF domains.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and database management.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms.
  • Advanced degree in a related field preferred (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science).
