Responsibilities

State Farm is currently building an Internal Developer and Product Management Portal and is looking for an exceptional Lead Software Engineer to join the team. In this role, you will be empowered to leverage your skills to help build and curate the portal. You will have the opportunity to build and extend the capabilities within the portal to enable the development, delivery, and management of products at State Farm. Your experience working within agile teams will empower you to consistently deliver high quality results across a cross functional geographically dispersed team.

Lead Engineers serve as technical experts for their team, spending some time coaching and mentoring junior engineers to elevate the overall team. Responsibilities include:

  • Resolves complex technical problems using a DevSecOps approach, researches industry best practices and conducts proof-of-concepts
  • Surfaces significant engineering-related decisions, risks, issues, and problems and applies engineering disciplines to drive towards resolution
  • Participates in inner-/open-source communities to help solve technical challenges and contributes back where applicable
  • Utilizes up-to-date coding, testing, security, DevOps, and software engineering practices to maintain and create new applications that support business requirements
  • Collects and analyzes information to identify customers' technical needs, suggests solutions and develops implementation and integration plans (e.g., technical proposals)
  • Responsible for the analysis, design, deployment, support, and security of technology to ensure the organization is efficiently managing its technology and data-related assets in accordance with market best-practices and external regulations
  • Exhibits DevOps and Agile mindset where team is accountable for product from inception to sunset
  • Possesses an understanding of User Experience practices to improve usability and interaction between the customer and product
  • Applies a wide application of complex principles, theories, and concepts in computer science for software engineering solutions


Qualifications

Ideal Candidates will have the following:

  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, CSS
  • Experience with a major UI framework (React, Vue, or Angular) and Material UI (MUI)
  • DevOps experience with complete CI/CD techniques and tools (i.e. GitLab CI)
  • Experience with Customer-driven design and development

Desirable skills:

  • Experience/Knowledge with Backstage (or similar Internal Developer Portals)
  • Experience driving UI initiatives and partnering with UX designers
  • Experience building and deploying on AWS; use of core services (i.e. EKS, S3, IAM, AWS Networking, Cloudwatch)
