Guna Lab - Junior/Assistant Specialist

Biochemistry and Biophysics

UC San Francisco

The Guna lab is seeking applicants for a Junior/Assistant Academic Specialist position using cutting edge functional genomics and biochemical techniques to understand how membrane proteins get made in human cells. This position would involve working with a range of techniques including CRISPR screening, protein purification, cell culture and in vitro assays. This position is ideal for a candidate with a background in biochemistry, genetics, or cell biology who is interested in gaining further experience in an academic laboratory working at the boundary of multiple disciplines. There would be an emphasis on developing skills that would make the applicant competitive for both academic and industry roles.

General responsibilities would involve designing and executing experiments, recording data, and interpreting findings. More information about the Guna lab can be found at https://www.gunalab.org.

Required Qualifications:



  • Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
  • Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with 3 or more years of research experience to be appointed at the Assistant rank.
  • Good time management, communication and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with the following would be greatly preferred:

    • Cloning
    • Mammalian tissue culture
    • Flow cytometry
    • Protein expression and purification




See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $53,100-$68,300.
