As a Lead Utility Engineer, you will oversee the delivery and management of utility infrastructure improvement projects. Your responsibilities will include leading technical aspects such as designs, plans, specifications, calculations, exhibits, reports, forms, analysis, schedules, and meetings in accordance with clients' expectations. Additionally, you will monitor project status, including budget, tasks, resources, and schedules.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, preferably Civil, Construction, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within one (1) year is a plus
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with utility design, engineering, or coordination experience
  • Experience working for or coordinating with public agencies is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and CAD Software is preferred (Examples: AutoCAD, Microstation, GeoPak, OpenRoads)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with attending utility meetings with designers, utility companies, and/or reviewing agencies to coordinate infrastructure projects

Essential Functions

  • Lead utility designs for various types of infrastructure improvement projects for a wide range of clients (Examples: utility companies, railroads, DOTs, cities, counties, Tollways, and transit agencies) to produce plans, specifications, estimates, and schedules
  • Meet with client and associated stakeholders and perform site visits in the field as necessary
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to technical engineering staff ranging at all levels
  • Conduct utility conflict analysis for proposed utility installations considering both existing utility locations and vicinity utility installations
  • Identify necessary utility relocations and/or protections and outline potential sequencing of relocations
  • Maintain a working knowledge of policies, regulations, and engineering standards for utility designs for various types of utilities (Examples: Water, Sewer, Gas, Electric, Telecommunications)
  • Coordinate with outside consultants on project tasks, design elements, progress, and QA/QC reviews
  • Understand the various Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) levels and identify ways to effectively utilize during design
  • Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Examples AutoCAD, Microstation, GeoPak, OpenRoads) to produce designs, plans, details, exhibits, and alternatives
  • Read, understand, and interpret existing utility maps or as-builts to be drawn into CAD or ArcGIS
  • Lead or assist in developing utility guidelines, lessons learned, or other supporting materials to improve production and quality across the team
  • Assist with development of project scope, budget, schedule, and cost estimates for utility designs and agreements for third-party utility relocations
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate simultaneous tasks/projects
  • Attend industry workshops, seminars, trainings, and conferences

Compensation Range:

$89,487.93 - $119,317.24
