SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $86,507.00 to $91,484.10 and may be commensurate with experience.

Position Description: The Social Media and Internal Communications Manager is responsible for developing, executing, and managing effective social media strategies and internal communications at SOME. This role will support the organization's mission by enhancing its online presence, engaging with the community, and fostering a collaborative internal communication environment. The Social Media and Internal Communications Manager will work closely with various teams to ensure consistent messaging across platforms, both external and internal.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field. 3-5 years of experience in social media management, internal communications, or public relations, preferably in a nonprofit environment.

Preferred: 5-7 years of experience in social media management, internal communications, or public relations, preferably in a nonprofit environment. Strong understanding of social media platforms, analytics tools, and content creation software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite). Familiarity with SEO and digital marketing best practices is a plus.

Required License/Certification: N/A

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week); Hybrid Schedule (2-3 days in office/week)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • In-depth knowledge of current social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) and strategies for engagement, content creation, and community management.

    Strong ability to write clear, concise, and compelling content for both social media and internal communications.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and external stakeholders in a professional, positive, and persuasive manner.
  • Experience bringing a lens of inclusivity to all of your work and interactions
  • Familiarity with best practices in internal communications, including the development of newsletters, emails, and organizational messaging.
  • Ability to interpret social media metrics, translating quantitative data into useful, actionable insights
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress, Sprout Social, Meltwater, Cision, Smartsheet, SharePoint
  • Flexible, with an all-hands-on-deck, team-centered approach. Adept at creating relationships and fostering buy-in.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective social media campaigns that align with organizational goals.
  • Strong awareness of emerging social media trends, platform updates, and industry best practices to optimize engagement and outreach.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptation in the evolving digital landscape.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and organizational goals are met.
  • Ability to interpret social media metrics, translating quantitative data into useful, actionable insights

  • Knowledge of content creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.), and video editing tools to create engaging visual and written content.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit communications, donor engagement, and mission-driven storytelling.
  • Experience in event promotion, community engagement, and partnership development.
  • Understanding of social media analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics) and how to interpret data to adjust strategies for optimization.
  • Understanding of the unique communication needs and strategies within a nonprofit organization, including audience engagement, donor relations, and mission-driven messaging.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments, external vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and timely delivery of content.


Expected Contributions: Annual Giving



  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with SOME's mission, advocacy goals, and organizational objectives.
  • Ensure the social media strategy is consistently updated to reflect current trends, community needs, and organizational priorities.
  • Create, curate, and schedule engaging content (text, images, videos) across all social media platforms, ensuring brand consistency and voice.
  • Focus on promoting client success stories, community outreach, and advocacy efforts, highlighting SOME's impact.
  • Oversee the creation of short videos, reels, and other multimedia content to engage diverse audiences and amplify the organization's message.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of SOME's social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok), ensuring timely responses and consistent engagement.
  • Monitor and engage with followers, fostering a positive and active online community while responding to inquiries or comments in a professional and timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications to manage sensitive topics and maintain a positive online reputation during crises, ensuring communication remains aligned with SOME's values.
  • Maintain and contribute to the social media section of the organization's editorial calendar to ensure timely content delivery.
  • Coordinate with staff and volunteers to source authentic content, promoting their participation in social media initiatives.
  • Coordinate internal communications to ensure alignment across departments and engagement with staff on upcoming events, initiatives, and important organizational updates.
  • Direct the creation of compelling content (press releases, blogs, reports, social media posts, and promotional materials) that highlights SOME's work and impact, aligning with the guidance of the executive leadership team/CDO.
  • Manage the creation and dissemination of multimedia content (photos, videos) for social media, email campaigns, and the website, driving measurable audience actions.
  • Increase the photo and video presence online, ensuring these mediums are utilized to tell impactful stories and engage the audience effectively.

  • Track, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics, using insights to inform and optimize future content and campaigns.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to refine content strategies, improve audience engagement, and achieve measurable goals.
  • Plan and implement targeted social media campaigns that support key organizational events, fundraising initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
  • Drive measurable audience actions, such as donations, event attendance, and increased community awareness.
  • Manage and nurture relationships with external vendors, including graphic designers, photographers, and printers, ensuring project timelines, budget allocations, and deliverables are met.
  • Coordinate with staff and volunteers to source authentic content and encourage their participation in social media initiatives.
  • Stay updated on social media trends, platform updates, and best practices, incorporating them into strategies to keep SOME's content relevant and engaging.
  • Coordinate volunteer contributions to ensure their active participation in social media projects, fostering collaboration across teams.


Reports to: Executive Vice President, Chief Development Officer

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings offsite
