POSITION SUMMARY: Utilizes existing transportation seating products to satisfy customer layout designs. Designs new mounting systems and redesigns existing mounting systems to fulfill the needs of customers. Resolves engineering design issues affecting manufacturing processes and product assembly. Seeks to provide lower cost and more efficient products complying with applicable specifications and laws.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functions as an engineering leader for application of seating products for use in customer vehicles (buses, trains, etc.)
  • Solves design problems to meet customers' requests.
  • Works jointly with Tooling, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering as well as Purchasing Representatives to implement product into manufacturing.
  • Generates product documentation (CAD drawings) for use in manufacturing and determining product cost.
  • Completes detailed drawings with bill of materials, parts, sub-assemblies, and overall assemblies.
  • Works directly with OEM Engineers to discuss, evaluate and exchange seat model data to meet the end user's requirements.
  • May be required to work with external suppliers for parts and with production personnel to help improve processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates degree with emphasis in mechanical design field preferred.
  • Four years related work experience preferred.
  • Four years of experience with SolidWorks required.
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred. Experience in machining, tooling and welding preferred.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, principles, design and analysis simulations, material science and strength of materials.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software, (solid modeling).
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet schedule deadlines.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated team-play and ability to share ideas and think outside the box for process improvement.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to interpret and easily share facts and information with both internal and external customers.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Normal office environment with little, if any, discomfort due to heat, dust, noise and the like.
  • Frequent keyboarding and computer operation are required.
  • Work frequently requires attention to details and periodically involves pressures related to meeting deadlines, scheduling requirements and simultaneous projects.
