Software Engineer Intern

Overview

This Software Engineering Internship is for a qualified computer science/computer engineering student to work on the PICS program and/or the CBMS program from approximately May through August 2025. The intern will work with limited supervision to provide software engineering support for platform control and battery management systems for manned submersibles. The intern will support development of software capability modules to support autonomous operation of unmanned vehicles based upon the platform control system software. The intern will work closely with the platform control and battery management system engineering team in developing related software capability modules.


What will you do?

The selected candidate will work individually or with small teams to prototype and evaluate commercial and open-source technologies for inclusion in future tactical system builds. Prototyping efforts span a broad spectrum of computer technologies, cybersecurity, data management, and networks. Specific activities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Participate in cross-domain working groups to coordinate prototyping efforts
  • Brief results to senior engineers
  • Conceive, develop, and evaluate novel engineering solutions to address the unique requirements of the maritime environment
  • Update colleagues and management regularly about progress and accomplishments
  • Communicate clearly, when required, with company and project management, project team members, and customers
  • Provide and update technical documentation for all work performed
  • Follow company-standard processes and procedures
  • Maintain or improve product quality
  • Perform tasks accurately and on-time
  • Stay abreast of advances in technology

Do you have what it takes?

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology
  • Extended experience using Linux (RHEL/Centos 7 or 8)
  • Experience with shell scripting languages
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness
  • US Citizenship required

Desired Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with Qt
  • Experience with real-time operating systems
  • Experience developing software with C++ or Java on multiple projects
