Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Fayetteville State University offers B.A. and M.A. programs in Sociology and a B.S. program in Interdisciplinary Studies, with minors in Africana Studies and Sociology.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The fixed-term full-time lecturer/adjunct assistant professor of sociology position is a renewable non-tenure-track 9-month appointment with a possible option to teach summer courses. The department seeks applicants with a commitment to excellence in teaching effectiveness and the ability to teach various sociology courses in both in-class and online settings. The area of specialization is open, but applicants with an academic background in race and ethnicity are preferred.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A master's degree in sociology to be appointed as lecturer.
A Ph.D. in sociology to be appointed as an adjunct assistant professor.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in sociology.
  • Online and in-class teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach SOCI 370 (The Sociology of the Black Community).
  • Ability to teach SOCI 412 (Race and Ethnic Relations).
  • Ability to teach in-class sections of SOCI 210 (Principles of Sociology).
  • Experience with online course development and instruction in Canvas or other online learning management systems.
