Information Services Librarian

Adjunct Faculty appointments are located on Parkland College's Campus in Champaign, Illinois and have an hourly rate of $29.41.

This position is an on-campus, part-time appointment covered by the Parkland College Part-Time Faculty collective bargaining unit.

Information Services Librarian works as part of a team responsible for assisting patrons in all aspects of library research, by providing a full range of reference assistance and teaching information literacy to students, faculty, staff, and the public.

The Information Services Librarian is an adjunct faculty appointment on a schedule established by the Learning Services and Instruction Librarian. Schedule includes evening hours and some weekend hours. Staffing changes occasionally necessitate an altered work schedule. Minimal supervision is provided; the Information Services Librarian must be able to work independently, accurately prioritize tasks, efficiently serve customers, and make appropriate decisions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Answer in-person, online, and telephone reference questions and requests for information support.
  • Plan and present information literacy programs to students and faculty.
  • Lead library orientations.
  • Prepare library guides.
  • Build and maintain collections.
  • Troubleshoot technology problems.
  • Supervise library operations as needed on evenings and weekends.
  • Serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments and on library teams.
  • Participates in local, state, and national library and information science activities to represent the college and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of electronic and print services.
  • Strong public service orientation.
  • Creativity and commitment to implementing innovative library programs, methods, and technologies.
  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous projects.
  • Familiarity with library and office-based software, databases, and systems.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work
    restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at
    Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to
    suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment.
    This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity
    under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
