Job Summary:

The Department of Radiology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Medicine & Public Health is seeking a Scientist I to work with Dr. Laura Eisenmenger in the evaluation of 4D flow MRI in an autosomal dominant vascular dementia, CADASIL (Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy). The Scientist I will more broadly test and validate novel quantitative MR methods through testing in phantoms and in people. This will then be applied to evaluate vascular changes in normal aging compared with vascular pathology in CADASIL. They will work closely with radiologists and other clinicians to provide engineering solutions to clinical needs and challenges.

The successful candidate will collaborate on MRI development and implementation research, with a focus on vascular imaging, including investigating the role of vascular health, vascular aging, and vascular disease on the brain.

The Scientist I position will work closely with multiple research groups and assist with mentorship of junior researchers. May supervise approximately 2-3 graduate students.


Responsibilities:
Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps to prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.

  • 20% Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 45% Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
  • 10% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 5% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 10% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 5% Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
  • 5% Assists with the mentorship of trainees in the group

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
MD or PhD in Medical Physics, or a related technical degree by start date.


Qualifications:

- Prior experience with vascular MRI, with consideration to those with experience in 4D flow MRI.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 11 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for the position is $70,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:
