Job Description

Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) Research Security (RS) department provides operational support for GT/GTRI in the protection of government classified and sensitive information and the physical areas in which this material resides. This protection of classified and sensitive information is accomplished through the following security disciplines; Physical Security, Information Security, Personnel Security clearances, Classified Material Services (document control), Communication Security, Operations Security, Counterintelligence, Visitor Control, and Security Awareness and Training. The RS department seeks a Student Assistant to provide operational support starting Summer 2023 in the Smyrna, GA facility.

The job duties will include the following:

* Assist all departments with day-to-day operational duties
* Assist with visit control outgoing and incoming visitors' request
* Assist with Personnel Security reports and Collateral Contract closeout reports
* Maintain electronic and physical files for Personnel Security, Collateral Contracts Administration, and the 3 Corporations (GIT/GTRC/GTARC)
* Input and update date Security Information Management Systems (SIMS)
* Courier classified documents to and from main campus facilities, Cobb County Research Facilities, and local post office
* Assist with DCSA Annual Self Inspection Program
* Maintain office supplies and the upkeep of the supply room
* Escort Shred-It contractor to empty bins in all facility locations
* Email/mail correspondence to government and cleared facility contractors
* Answer phone, receive voicemails, and ensure they are forwarded to the appropriate department/person(s)
* Ensure office is stocked with appropriate supplies to include paper replenished in printers
* Assist with monitoring classified meetings, conferences, and courses
* Other duties assigned


Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant



  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university
  • 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must have a driver's license
  • Will be required to take and maintain specific training pertinent to the job (Export Control, Initial/Refresher Security Brief/Training, and Defensive Driving Course)
  • Commit to 15-20 hours of work per week


Preferred Qualifications

  • Student must be able to acquire and maintain a Secret Clearance
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Able to understand database functions
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must have a driver's license
  • Ability to clearly communicate oral and written

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.


Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
