The Snead Lab seeks postdoctoral research associated with expertise in the broad areas of RNA biology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, and genomics. The postdoc will develop and perform independent research in the emerging field of biomolecular condensation and will utilize a variety of approaches from cell biology, protein biochemistry, RNA biology, membrane biophysics, and quantitative microscopy.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Independently design and carry out research in the areas of biophysics, biochemistry, RNA biology, genomics, and other related topics.
- Write and publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
- Work toward securing independent research funding.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory research.
- Develop internal and external collaborations
- Travel and present research at national and international conferences

- PhD in biomedical sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry or related fields
- One, preferably two or more, first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
- Ability to perform laboratory research and carry out complex, detailed protocols independently (skills include, but are not limited to, standard molecular and cell biology techniques including cloning, running DNA/RNA/protein gels, cell culture, imaging, etc.)
- Ability to survey, understand, and stay up to date on scientific literature
- Ability to perform scientific writing independently
- Mentoring experience with undergraduate and/or graduate students
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
- Experience writing grants/fellowships and/or securing independent funding
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
- Mammalian cell culture, including transfection, lentiviral transduction, and/or gene editing
- Fluorescence microscopy
- Immunofluorescence and/or RNA/DNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)
- DNA and/or RNA isolation from cells or tissue
- Genomics and/or transcriptomics - including sample and library preparation and data analysis
- Protein biochemistry
- Coding in Python and/or Matlab
