Position Summary

We are seeking candidates who are exceptional, innovative, and passionate software engineers who want to grow with us. You will be on the ground floor of a new effort to design, develop, test, and employ an effects-based simulation toolkit. This is a rare opportunity to create tools to generate viable data for use in analysis to inform national security decisions. You will provide technical advice to fellow Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) software developers, conduct software development, perform software unit testing, and implement software integration to enable analytical toolkit modernization to meet customers' current and future needs.

Trideum software developers develop, plan and analyze, design products, and program computer software that requires extensive research. They use advanced knowledge in the field of computer science or software engineering along with advanced knowledge of software development and methodologies. They perform software and system testing procedures, bug verification, release testing, and beta support. They perform product design and programming activities involving multiple modules or subsystems. They participate in design meetings and consult with other staff to evaluate the interface between hardware and software, and the operational and performance requirements of the overall system. They perform complex release testing and beta support for assigned projects and resolve problems found in the software. They prepare the documentation required for the product. They analyze and research software requirements to determine the feasibility of design and marketing requirements within time and cost constraints. They may consult with customer concerning the application and maintenance of software, coordinate the installation of software systems, and/or serve as a project architect.

The chosen candidate will be employed on a full-time basis, primarily at government offices in Fort Belvoir, VA. This position offers some flexibility for a hybrid work schedule, depending on project requirements. The person in this role will provide software engineering of modeling and analysis tools, and integration into a common environment for Joint and Army campaign analysis.

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to develop new software tools and create major enhancements to existing software. The role requires creativity and flexibility of software programming to support innovation and enhancement requirements of the larger program objectives. In this role, the candidate must be able to analyze user needs, conceptualize solutions, determine the feasibility of design, and know how to apply new technologies to allow for improvement to existing or development of new critical software applications within our client organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) framework coupled and atomic models.
  • Assess existing code modules and align them with current and future desired requirements.
  • Work in a high-performance environment using Agile Software Development processes to support system design, architecture, application development, integration, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Develop and review code, update technical documents, generate unit tests, ensure code meets requirements through unit testing, and resolve discrepancy reports.
  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug software, algorithms, and mathematical solutions to mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions.
  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design systems and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
  • Author or assist in the writing of system specification manuals, technical reports, and user manuals.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate project status, design concepts, and performance metrics to project leadership.
  • Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends by experimenting with and learning new technologies.

  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging skills, including the ability to readily decompose complex problems into smaller, manageable tasks.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence or similar collaboration software tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously as well as with large and small teams of programmers.
