Position Summary
This position oversees accounting compliance and ensures a positive administrative experience for investigators at the Center. It serves as a backup ConnectCarolina approver, assists in financial report preparation and budget monitoring, and engages in strategic financial planning. Additionally, it manages daily transactions, cost accounting, and budget activities across various fund types, implementing control systems and maintaining financial responsibility using GAAP and GASN practices.
The role also manages fiscal activities related to research, including grants, contracts, and clinical trials. Responsibilities encompass post-award project administration, account reconciliation, financial reporting, and communication with faculty, staff, central offices, and sponsors. The position collaborates with Principal Investigators on budget guidance and ensures compliance with sponsor guidelines. It also handles financial closeouts for sponsored research projects and contracts.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Entry-level with Masters; or Bachelors and 0-2 yrs experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
This position requires outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to multi-task different projects and accounts while adhering to strict deadlines. The candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively with in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Organizational and planning skills are essential to success in this position. Must have extensive and demonstrated computer skills and experience in standard office and financial management systems.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Four-year degree in accounting or finance, experience with PeopleSoft is a plus.

Knowledge of and experience with accounting policies and procedures in regard to all types of accounting including but, not limited to: contracts and grants, foundations, state and overhead accounts.

Knowledge of funding program specifics and accounting principles and their application to cost, governmental accounting and non-governmental accounting. Experience with post-award grant accounting with the ability to identify substantive issues, and thoroughly and accurately research and analyze them to anticipate budgetary adjustments.
