Ameresco's Distributed Energy Resource (DER) team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instrument and Controls Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team based in Charlotte, NC. Remote work may also be considered for the right situation. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing and constructing renewable natural gas (RNG) plants and landfill gas-to-energy power generation plants. This position requires a strong background in construction, design, and project management, with specific experience in renewable natural gas or power generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the instrumentation and controls design and construction efforts for RNG and landfill gas-to-energy projects.

  • Develop and review instrumentation and control system design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, mechanical, civil, and process engineers, to ensure seamless project integration.

  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems and equipment.

  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.

  • Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction phases.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.

  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to address project requirements and resolve technical issues.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in instrumentation and controls engineering, renewable energy technologies, and industry best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, with a focus on construction, design, and project management.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in renewable natural gas or power generation projects is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and HMI.

  • Proficiency in instrumentation and controls design software and tools.

  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and lead cross-functional teams.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
