This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNITS 1, 3, 4 & 5. Location: 2 N LaSalle Street + City-wide field locations Days: Monday - Friday Hours: 8:30am - 4:30pm THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Four (4) years of journey level experience in skilled building construction, rehabilitation, or inspection; OR * Successful completion of U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship training program in a building trade and journeyman status, OR * Successful completion of an industry or company sponsored apprenticeship training program in a building trade, supplemented by at least two (2) years of journey level experience in skilled building construction, rehabilitation, or inspection, OR * An Associate's degree from an accredited college in Construction Management or Building Inspection, supplemented by at least two (2) years of journey level experience in skilled building construction, rehabilitation, or inspection, OR * A Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or Doctoral from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Construction Management, or construction related Engineering, supplemented by at least one (1) year of journey level experience in skilled building construction, rehabilitation, or inspection SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected. Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following: * Previous experience inspecting single and multi-family housing construction and rehabilitation projects * Previous experience working with HUD (U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development) rules, regulations, and standards * Previous experience managing and resolving a diverse range of difficult customer interactions * Proficiency working with Microsoft Office products For information about City of Chicago employee benefits, please click here For information about City of Chicago salaries and job titles, please click here APPLICATION EVALUATION: Initial evaluation will be based on the information provided on the application and the documents submitted.
