Job Overview

The Director, Product Management leads a team of customer-centric Product Managers to develop and champion a world-class product vision and long-term strategy for Macy's and Bloomingdale's onsite Product Recommendations. This includes personalized recommendations, curated recommendations, outfitting, and sponsored ads across desktop, mobile web, and native apps. This role drives collaboration with data scientists, engineers, and UX designers to deliver compelling, machine-learned product recommendations that enhance the user journey and optimize product discovery. By refining front-end user experiences across the core funnel, the Director increases revenue, conversion, and products purchased per transaction. The Director reports to the Senior Director, Product Management.

This role focuses on solving complex customer and business challenges in ways that resonate with users while driving measurable business impact. The Director empowers the Product Management team to do the same, ensuring they are effective in delivering customer and business outcomes while fostering engagement with Macy's culture and values. Strong cross-functional collaboration is essential, requiring close partnerships with strategy, customer management, delivery & fulfillment, personalization, loyalty, engineering, data science, and other product development teams.

What You Will Do

Product Development Leadership



  • Establish and drive a customer-centric vision to enhance the relevancy, accuracy, and conversion of product recommendations across Macy's and Bloomingdale's onsite customer journey and platforms (e.g., desktop, mobile web, native app, email).

    • Manage multiple concurrent site and app tests, selecting winning strategies based on primary and secondary KPIs and scaling successful outcomes for both customers and the company.
    • Advocate for a long-term strategic perspective with cross-functional leadership, prioritizing initiatives ready for development.
    • Lead the development of features and functionality for strategic enterprise initiatives, including identifying business opportunities, conducting user research, defining requirements, overseeing implementation, and evaluating success.
    • Establish clear and measurable goals for the team, ensuring timely, high-quality product enhancements that align with critical business objectives and change management needs.
    • Independently identify new opportunities and develop business cases/ROI for complex and emerging domains



People Leadership



  • Inspire and empower Product Managers to define and execute their portions of the product roadmap.
  • Support direct reports in prioritization and resource allocation to deliver key business initiatives.
  • Promote cross-department collaboration by sharing team insights, plans, and accomplishments.
  • Foster a growth mindset through active mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
  • Create career development pathways that align individual passions and talents with company and product goals.
  • Model and reinforce Macy's "Our Behaviors," culture, and values within the team.
  • Manage hiring, retention, and succession planning.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.


Executive Stakeholder Management



  • Define and drive the product strategy for Product Recommendations, collaborating with key business stakeholders across UX, Engineering, Analytics, Media, Merchandising, Finance, and Strategy teams.
  • Partner with the marketing activation team to enhance loyalty acquisition and proprietary credit penetration.
  • Work closely with the Personalization team to create more relevant transactional experiences that simplify shopping and boost conversion and order value.
  • Lead and facilitate informed decision-making on prioritization, approvals, and trade-offs with senior management.
  • Ensure key stakeholders are continuously informed on product progress, from concept through launch, to achieve ambitious organizational goals.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.


Skills You Will Need

Customer-Centric Mindset - Deep understanding of user needs, behaviors, and pain points to drive highly relevant product recommendations.

Product Vision & Roadmap Development - Ability to define and execute a long-term strategy aligned with business goals.

Data-Driven Decision-Making - Proficiency in leveraging analytics, experimentation, and KPIs to measure success and optimize product recommendations.

Ecommerce & Personalization Expertise - Strong grasp of ecommerce trends, AI-driven recommendations, and personalized shopping experiences.

Technology & Platform Understanding - Familiarity with machine learning, AI, and digital product development in collaboration with data science and engineering teams.

A/B Testing & Experimentation - Experience designing, running, and scaling successful experiments to drive conversion and revenue growth.

Executive Communication & Influence - Ability to present and justify product strategies to senior leadership and stakeholders across various functions.

Business & Market Acumen - Strong grasp of marketing, sales, service, finance, legal, and privacy considerations to balance customer experience with business objectives.

Cross-Functional Partnership - Effective collaboration with UX, Engineering, Analytics, Media, Merchandising, and Strategy teams.

Team Building & Motivation - Fosters a high-performance, collaborative culture that embraces innovation and continuous learning.

Agile & Lean Product Development - Strong experience working within Agile frameworks, writing user stories, and iterating on product development.

Project & Resource Prioritization - Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, allocate resources effectively, and drive execution.

Problem-Solving & Adaptability - Thrives in ambiguity, identifying creative solutions to complex business challenges.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. MBA preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in ecommerce, with at least 1 year experience engaging with data science, ad tech, or product recommendations. 5-7+ years of digital product management practice. 2+ years of management and people leadership experience.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
