Responsibilities to Anticipate/Expect:
  • Apply metallurgical technical expertise to material characterization, engineering design, testing and analysis. Support manufacturing with a thorough understanding of but not limited to casting, forging, and heat treatment processes.
  • Lead failure analysis investigations, identify root causes of material and processing issues. Recommend effective resolutions and process improvements.
  • Develop technical documentation including engineering standards and facilitate knowledge transfer to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to internal as well as external customers.
  • Interface and support manufacturing, supply chain, quality and program office organizations.
  • Occasional travel to other General Dynamics facilities, USG installation and suppliers required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications / What you must have
  • Extensive working knowledge of metallic engineering materials. Particular expertise with titanium, aluminum and ferrous alloys is required.
  • Degree requirement: BS in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Science. Advanced degrees in these fields are preferred.
  • Experience with steel and/or aluminum manufacturing is preferred.
  • A working understanding of materials laboratory instrumentation and testing techniques is desirable.
  • Failure analysis experience is desired.
  • 5+ years of related work experience. Candidates with lesser experience will be considered with an advanced degree.

Additional Information
  • Must be able to travel to suppliers and production facilities within the US.
  • This position requires eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
  • US Citizenship required.
