The Division of Anatomy Education, Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University is accepting candidates for Faculty positions, Faculty Track: Teacher Scholar or Teacher Excellence. This position will be based out of the SKMC Department of Medical Education.
Primary function: Serve as full-time faculty in the Department of Medical Education, Division of Anatomy Education with a primary emphasis on human anatomical sciences education.
Strong candidates will have expertise in human anatomy, including imaging, embryology, microscopic anatomy, neuroanatomy, and the ability to teach cadaver-based gross anatomy. Our dissection laboratories provide the latest in environmental, safety, and instructional technologies. The educational responsibilities of this position will include guiding students through dissections and identification of cadaveric materials, so previous experience in a gross anatomy lab is necessary. Strong candidates will also have experience teaching histology and neuroanatomy using digitized slides and preserved specimens. The successful candidate will be encouraged to expand the scope of educational modalities and should have a commitment to deliver cutting edge content using contemporary tools and pedagogies.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participation in systems based team-taught sessions in gross anatomy for students enrolled in a variety of health-based curricula
  • Participation in systems based team-taught sessions in embryology, microscopic anatomy, and neuroanatomy for students enrolled in a variety of health-based curricula
  • Participation in dissection based advanced anatomy courses for fourth year medical students
  • Guiding students through the dissection, identification, and understanding of the clinical relevance of anatomical structures on human cadavers
  • Supporting anatomy education through the critical evaluation of learning materials and assessment items
  • Supporting anatomy education through the generation of new content utilizing multiple pedagogies
  • Advancing health professions education by participating in educational research endeavors within the College of Medicine and/or in collaboration with other Colleges
  • Special preparation of cadaveric specimens, as needed, including the set up and proctoring of practical examinations
  • Participation in undergraduate and graduate level anatomy courses or programs.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have qualifications meeting junior faculty rank, however, all levels of qualified applicants will be considered, and compensation and rank will be commensurate with experience.

Educational/Training Requirements:Doctoral degree or equivalent preferred and experience in teaching gross anatomy, embryology, microscopic anatomy, and neuroanatomy.

Experience Requirements:

  • Teaching of anatomical science in a cadaver-based dissection course
  • Content delivery using a variety of pedagogies, including, lecture, labs, team-based learning, and online delivery
  • Priority will be given to applicants with demonstrated interest or expertise in innovative educational approaches in the anatomical disciplines.

Other Preferred Functions and Competencies:

  • Experience with the Canvas Learning Management System
  • Experience with, or a desire to become proficient in educational technologies and platforms such as Collaborate, Nearpod, Biolucida, ExamSoft, Visible Body Dissector and Articulate
  • Familiarity with the administration of both case-based and traditional health-sciences curricula
  • Experience with or a desire to participate in case-based learning for medical students
