Job Description

The University of Missouri's Division of Research, Innovation & Impact (RII), in partnership with the Office of Human Resources, seeks a dynamic and outgoing professional to provide primary human resources (HR) service to various departments and offices within RII. This position will work onsite in the primary contact's location, the Bond Life Sciences Center, and serve as backup for the other HR professionals within RII. You will be part of a team who delivers HR expertise and guidance to our supervisors, managers, and leaders. We enjoy our work, work hard, and take pride in delivering results to our leaders throughout the division.

You may have skills and experience in recruitment and selection, onboarding and orientation, or employee relations and policy interpretation. We have a place for you on our team and your talents will flourish in working with RII and the Office of Human Resources.

Key Duties Performed by This Position Include:

Recruiting & Onboarding

  • In partnership with Recruitment Center of Expertise (COE)
  • Serves as liaison between Recruitment and the Hiring Manager, when needed.
  • Participate in the sourcing/screening / interviewing / interview scheduling/ selection process and negotiations.
  • Drive accountability for department orientation.
  • Assists and guides process completion and related programs, policies and procedures including but not limited to: recruiting, hiring, offers, immigration assistance for candidates (H-1B & J-1 processing)
  • Implements new hire orientation and onboarding programs.
  • Track new hires throughout first six months of employment.

Career Development & Performance Management

  • Provides leadership & development coaching (faculty, staff and managers)
  • Conducts talent and skill gap evaluations.
  • Oversees annual performance review/appraisal process and facilitate calibration sessions.
  • Trains and communicates with employees and managers on the performance review process.
  • Works with leadership and managers on performance improvement plans, as needed.
  • Recommends training or professional development as necessary and facilitates succession planning discussions to build people pipeline.

Employee Relations

  • Handles conflict resolution and investigations, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to supervisor.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Counsels managers on job performance, compliance, and university policy & practices matters.
  • Advises leaders on corrective action based on fact finding and evaluation of risks associated with specific actions.
  • Plans, executes and advises managers on transitions, terminations and off-boarding.

Compensation and Classification

  • Conducts job audits, analysis, and Position Classification Questionnaire (PCQ) completion.
  • Develops position descriptions.
  • Coaches and evaluates requests for pay changes due to reclassifications or other out of cycle pay changes.

HR Programs & Policy Implementation

  • With the support and guidance of the General Counsel's Office and the Office of Human Resources, advises leadership on applicable federal/state regulations and University CRRs to improve policy literacy, ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Identifies / implements workflow changes and process improvements.
  • Monitors, reports on, and is accountable for HR metrics to ensure service targets are met.

  • Demonstrates strong understanding of HR analytics, and is able to use data to draw meaningful conclusions to drive workforce planning and decision-making for the institution.

Operational Knowledge

  • Demonstrates knowledge of academic, higher education operations and campus operating structures (e.g., college, school, department, etc.)
  • Understands how to navigate complex employee populations and organizational systems, while taking a consultative approach to providing insights on how best to manage people-related needs.
  • Demonstrates understanding of key HR trends / leading practices and when to leverage Center of Expertise for guidance and support.
  • Demonstrates and ensures compliance with human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations for employee relations, equal employment opportunity, and retention programs.

This position requires reliable, onsite attendance.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm with occasional nights and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in higher education, human resources and business administration. SHRM or HRCI certification.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $58,573 - $80,000/year

Grade: GGS-11
