Description

The Staff Associate I for the Department of Surgery will work in the lab of Dr. Giovanni Ferrari to facilitate translational cardiothoracic research studies. The individual will work closely with Principle Investigators and Postdoctoral Researchers on a variety of research projects focusing on heart valve physiology, cardiovascular tissue biomechanics, vascular cell physiology, and tissue biochemistry. Will also collaborate with clinical cardiothoracic and animal research teams.

Responsibilities:



  1. Collection of surgical specimens from the operation room
  2. Perform basic and translational research experiments in the area of cardiovascular physiology and material science
  3. Prepare clinical samples (including blood and tissue specimens for histological analysis).
  4. Facilitate benchtop research and manage clinical information pertaining to research specimens.
  5. Establishing and verifying novel lab protocols.
  6. Installing and testing new laboratory equipment.
  7. Compile and present results in a brief and efficient approach.
  8. Assist with the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
  9. Communicate amongst both researchers and clinicians.
  10. Support other functions as assigned.


Qualifications

Bachelors degree in specific research field and 4 years experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with laboratory techniques: processing clinical samples, histology, cell culture, immunoassays, biomechanics, imaging, and data analysis.
  • Background in cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to present research and scientific data in a professional setting
