NLP Machine Learning Engineer - Remote

BigBear.ai is seeking an NLP Machine Learning Engineer to join our team. In this role as an Natural Language Processing Machine Learning Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, updating/modernizing, and optimizing different Transformer-based language models. You will work with some of the most advanced models and frameworks in the industry, including LLAMA, Jan, WizardLM, and Mixtral, and adapt these model types to critical use cases. Your expertise in NLP methods and algorithms will drive the creation of robust and scalable AI solutions.

This is a fully remote position.

• Develop and optimize large language models (LLMs) and embedding models for various applications.
• Work with advanced open source LLM frameworks, including LLAMA, Jan, WizardLM, and Mixtral.
• Create, add to, and retrieve from vector databases.
• Implement and refine NLP algorithms to improve model performance and accuracy. In particular, focus on NER, knowledge graph, and aspect sentiment type solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI/ML NLP-focused solutions into production systems.
• Modernize an NLP/NER pipeline to automatically process identified reports and ingest them into a variety of database formats.
• Conduct research and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in LLMs and NLP.
• Analyze and enhance the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of current models and systems.
• Design and perform experiments to validate the effectiveness of proposed solutions.
• Document and present technical solutions and methodologies to stakeholders. Work collaboratively with full-stack engineers to integrate NLP models into existing customer infrastructure and deliver to existing endpoints.

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computational Social Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 year's relevant work-related experience.
• Proven experience with large language models, particularly LLAMA, Jan, WizardLM, and Mixtral.
• Strong proficiency in general NLP methods and algorithms with a focus on Transformer Attention based approaches.
• Prior work with the spaCy library particularly important.
• Background in working with LLMs, Transformers, and Vector databases locally.
• Extensive experience with deep learning frameworks and tools (downside risks, appropriate use, etc.).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and familiarity with relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Langchain, Vector Databases like Chroma or Milvus, Transformers, Huggingface).
• Rigorous understanding of foundational statistical principles relevant to AI and machine learning.
• Experience in developing and optimizing NLP applications (discerning model and use case fit).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Relevant research publications a plus.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) for deploying AI models.
• Experience with data annotation and finetuning of LLMs for domain specific tasking.
• Knowledge of software development best practices, including version control (e.g., Git), unit testing, and continuous integration.
• Projects focused on metrics driven development for deep learning models and/or projects focused on multi agent modeling.
• Publications or contributions to conferences/journals in the field of AI/ML and NLP.
