Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow

Position #: 00007177 - Requisition #:36068

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our research team focused on advancing knowledge and interventions related to HIV prevention, care, and treatment among women, youth and children domestically and globally. This position provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to ongoing and new studies that aim to enhance HIV-related health outcomes through innovative interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate will participate in the design, conduct, analysis, and presentation of research studies and projects, as well as peruse a related independent area of research. This role requires a deep understanding of the biomedical components of HIV, as well as behavioral and structural factors, and the ability to use qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods to answer complex research questions.

Lisa Abuogi, MD, MSc and Karen Hampanda, PhD, MPH jointly lead a program of federally-funded research focused on improving outcomes for women, youth, and children living with and at-risk for HIV. Much of their research is conducted globally in Kenya and Zambia. This position will involve providing support to all aspects of their research studies. Drs. Abuogi and Hampanda will provide individualized research and career mentorship throughout the fellowship. Key responsibilities will include facilitating the development and implementation of research protocols, including Institutional Review Board applications, modifications, and status reports; developing and maintaining adherence to research protocols, standard operating procedures, and verifying accuracy of research data; coordinating various meetings with study staff, collaborators, and other stakeholders, including community partners as needed; and data management. Additionally, this position will support data analysis using advanced statistical techniques and qualitative methods and lead the preparation of manuscripts for high-impact journals, abstracts, conference presentations, and reports. The follow will be expected to train and mentor local research teams and junior staff in study design, data collection, and analysis techniques. Finally, the Fellow will contribute to securing funding through grant writing and proposal development for HIV-focused research initiatives and to identify funding opportunities to expand our team's research portfolio.

Under the mentorship of Drs. Abuogi and Hampanda, the Postdoctoral Fellow will receive professional development training, including 1) designing and implementing randomized controlled trials, including in global settings; 2) working with multidisciplinary research teams, including global partner; 3) data analysis and dissemination of findings from observational mixed methods research, randomized controlled trials, and implementation studies; 3) writing and submitting NIH grants (e.g. training grants such as T32 and K awards); 4) responsible conduct of research; and 5) research career guidance. Utilizing resources at the University of Colorado, the fellow and mentors will create a training plan to meet the fellow's career goals. The fellow will be supported to generate secondary research questions and conduct secondary data analysis using available quantitative and qualitative datasets.

In addition, The University of Colorado (CU) is one of the nation's premier educational and research institutions. The CU Anschutz campus offers a range of career development opportunities through the postdoc office and other institutes.

The PIs, Dr. Abuogi and Dr. Hampanda, are both NIH-funded scientists with a robust research portfolio of studies in eastern and southern Africa, as well as the USA. The position will offer excellent opportunities to develop collaborative research projects with investigators. The PIs highly value mentoring and are committed to supporting the fellow's research progress, independent goals, and career development, including exploring new project areas and collaborations.
