As aPrincipal Software Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to lead the design and implementation of innovative, high-quality software solutions. You'll have a direct impact on the company's engineering maturity, influencing infrastructure decisions, driving software best practices, and solving complex technical challenges. This role provides an opportunity to shape the future of the company's software systems, helping us build scalable, reliable, and cutting-edge products.

Responsibilities:

Engineering Vision & Strategy



  • Collaborate with senior leadership across engineering, product management, and architecture to define and execute long-term engineering strategies and roadmaps.
  • Provide valuable input on technology selection, architectural direction, and the adoption of best engineering practices to enhance team productivity and product quality.


Oversight of Software Implementation



  • Take ownership of key engineering projects, ensuring the implementation of high-quality, forward-thinking solutions that meet both business and technical requirements.
  • Work with engineering and product teams to translate business needs into scalable, maintainable, and secure software solutions.
  • Lead architectural reviews and code evaluations to ensure alignment with overall technical strategy and standards.


Technical Expertise & Problem Solving



  • Design, implement, and maintain robust software components, services, and tools that support the development of customer-facing products.
  • Drive the reduction of technical debt, balancing short-term fixes with long-term architectural health.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize the developer experience, fostering productivity and efficiency across engineering teams.
  • Participate in experimentation and prototyping to explore new technologies that can improve system performance and scalability.
  • Act as the go-to expert for tackling complex technical challenges within your domain.


Production Support



  • Contribute to the ongoing health and performance of production systems, maintaining high standards for reliability and quality.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead efforts to resolve incidents or defects.
  • Conduct thorough post-incident analysis, including root cause investigations and follow-up actions to prevent future issues.


Mentorship & Team Development



  • Facilitate growth and skill development within the engineering team by organizing knowledge-sharing activities such as tech talks, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Mentor engineers in system design, architecture, and best practices, promoting continuous learning and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Provide thoughtful leadership on technical decisions, offering guidance on trade-offs, and consistently helping your peers grow in their careers.


Qualifications:



  • 10+ years of progressive commercial software development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience with cloud computing, distributed systems, and microservices architectures.
  • Expert-level knowledge of software design principles, algorithms, data structures, and design patterns.
  • Strong understanding of system design principles, including performance, security and reliability.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into technical strategy and architectural direction.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • May require global/domestic travel.
  • Proficiency required in speaking, reading, and writing English.



This position is required to be onsite in State College, PA and may be eligible for Hybrid after onboarding is completed. Minitab does not cover the cost of relocation fees.
