Position Summary
The Weiss Lab at The University of Georgia's Complex Carbohydrate Research Center ( www.ccrc.uga.edu) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Professional to join our laboratory and contribute to drug discovery studies in models of neurodegenerative disorders. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting preclinical research aimed at identifying novel therapeutic targets and evaluating potential treatments for these conditions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a collaborative and dynamic environment and will provide multidisciplinary training in mammalian cell culture, preclinical drug discovery, glycobiology, and structural analysis of glycans.

Research Professional responsibilities include drug screening and biochemical assays, mammalian tissue/cell culture, and lab management. The position involves the application of CRISPR/Cas9 technologies, high-throughput drug screening, and mass spectrometry applications. The Research Professional will assist with these tasks after appropriate training. The position also involves preparation of writing reports, mentoring students/trainees, protocol optimization and some method development.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have extensive hands- on experience with mammalian cell culture and biochemical assay development, preferably in the context of drug discovery or neurodegenerative research.
  • Extensive prior experience with human cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques is an absolute requirement.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and fluency in written and spoken English are essential as is the ability to work in a collaborative scientific environment.
