OVERVIEW

This is a full-time, onsite position in our Mason, OH laboratory.

Myriad Genetics Inc., is a leading personalized medicine company dedicated to being a trusted advisor transforming patient lives worldwide with pioneering molecular diagnostics. Myriad discovers and commercializes molecular diagnostic tests that: determine the risk of developing disease, accurately diagnose disease, assess the risk of disease progression, and guide treatment decisions across six major medical specialties where molecular diagnostics can significantly improve patient care and lower healthcare costs. The GeneSight Psychotropic is Myriad Genetics mental health precision testing. The GeneSight Psychotropic test analyzes how a patient's genes may affect their outcomes with medications commonly prescribed to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD and other mental health conditions.

The Research Associate II position will participate in the development of molecular assays for personalized medicine. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in molecular biology techniques, such as DNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis and genotyping array. Research experience that was performed in an independent manner, in either an academic or industry setting, is highly desirable.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Build prototypes of new genomic assays that can be refined and launched into a high-volume clinical laboratory
  • Design, evaluate, and optimize molecular improvements to our existing assays that screen thousands of patients per day
  • Analyze and interpret experimental datasets to drive systematic and efficient iteration cycles
  • Communicate your results internally to key stakeholders and externally at conferences and in peer-reviewed literature
  • Tests will include experimental design, data collection, independent problem solving, and data analysis
  • Development activities will also require documentation, requiring excellent technical communication and writing skills


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES



  • Bachelors of Science or Masters of Science in molecular biology, genetics or related life science
  • 2+ years of full-time experience working in a laboratory utilizing molecular biology techniques
  • Proficiency in molecular biology including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, genotyping array
  • Data analysis and troubleshooting skills
  • PGx and Oncology experience preferred
  • Track record of achievement on challenging projects in industry and/or academia
  • Able to accurately document your work and effectively communicate progress in written and verbal form
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and to directly contribute to larger company goals


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Lifting Requirements - medium work or exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pound of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force consistently.
  • Physical Requirements - stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, reaching and repetitive motion.
  • Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
  • Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions - exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mists or gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards and radiant energy hazards. OSHA Category I - duties performed routinely requires exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
