Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates nature and quality of academic education provided to hospitalized Children and Adolescents as well as facilitates resolution of issues unique to the educational discipline. Provides classroom instruction to students in one or more programs of the hospital within the therapeutic milieu. Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning, implementing and evaluating individualized treatment.

Located in Chicago, Hartgrove Behavioral Health System consists of a 160-bed acute care, crisis stabilization, for-profit psychiatric hospital, treating children as young as 3 through older adults, within 8 different inpatient programs. We have one of the largest pediatric psychiatric programs in the state of Illinois and are most proud to be the first and currently only hospital in the country to have received the Joint Commission's Disease Specific Certification designations for Neuropsychiatry and Trauma Services. We also received our second award as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures from The Joint Commission.

Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility to work with children and adolescents in the inpatient and partial hospital programs.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education. Master's Degree preferred

Experience: Prefer previous experience working with children and adolescents with special educational needs.

Licensure/Certification: BA or BS in Elementary or Secondary Education Certification. Certification in Special Education preferred.

Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and crisis and behavior management.
