Manages, coordinates, and evaluates all elements of financial, material and human resources in the provision of pre-hospital care to assigned group of patients in accordance with the service and missions of the institution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Must possess a current certification as a West Virginia Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.

2. Must possess a current certification as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Four years' experience as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of 2 years' supervisory and/or management experience.

1. Oversees personnel to maintain a credentialed, competent, and cohesive team that meets patient care needs.

2. Advises the Director/Manager on the hiring, retention, interviewing, and recruitment of staff.

3. Acts as a role model, fostering team cohesion, individual coaching, and professional development.

4. Conducts performance reviews and provides ongoing feedback according to hospital policy.

5. Supports the Manager by conducting preliminary performance assessments and giving team members regular feedback on daily responsibilities

6. Participates in internal (WVU Medicine) and external performance improvement initiatives.

7. Uses data to make informed clinical decisions in complex and evolving situations affecting patient care and medical-legal issues.

8. Initiates appropriate actions in emergencies such as: power failure, disaster, fires, etc.. Coordinates communication between units.

9. Engages in budgetary activities to ensure the availability of necessary supplies, equipment, and staffing.

10. Monitors on a continual basis all personnel and current expense budgets providing information and/or justification of variances to the Director/Manager.

11. Recommends cost-effective staffing and resource utilization practices.

12.Assures the most economical utilization of time, materials and resources through the review of workflow and staffing patterns in order to achieve optimal productivity and to provide cost effective staffing patterns that ensure appropriate utilization of staff and skill mix.

13. Maintains effective communication with medical staff, patients, and departments to resolve issues and ensure quality patient care.

14. Participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and other departmental activities to keep teams informed.

15. Provides clinical expertise and guidance, consulting with other professionals as needed.

17. Coordinates day-to-day operations, ensuring team members adhere to policies, complete assigned tasks effectively, and maintain compliance. Provides feedback and guidance under Manager's direction to support team goals.

18. Supports and assists with service recovery initiative involving patients, families, and all other customers.

19. Assists in developing and communicating policies and procedures, ensuring they are readily available and incorporated into practice.

20. Oversees orientation, training, and continuing education for department and interdepartmental staff.

21. Directs and monitors the training, and evaluation of New hires.

22. Maintains accurate records in call databases for Medical Command and WV OEMS referral. Ensures accuracy of all call and report documentation.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

2. In-depth knowledge of WV EMS systems, including first responder, BLS, ALS, C3IFT, and critical care transport protocols.

3. Proficiency in computer applications essential to the role, including computer-aided dispatch, electronic charting, data entry, and word processing.

4. Basic understanding of budgeting, accounting, and staff resource management.

Additional Job Description:

Other duties may be assigned including but limited to assisting in covering open shifts and sharing on-call duties with the Manager and Director.
