Basic Function and Responsibility: To provide research assistance to the research director in the research and evaluation division of the NRC and Consortium for Substance Abuse Research and Evaluation on research and evaluation projects in social work, public health, and substance use; collect, organize and analyze data, prepare reports and presentations, and assist in the development of new projects. Duties: * Research: Perform research on specified topics and prepare literature reviews, bibliographies, and abstracts. Contribute to the analysis of data. Travel may be required for collecting data and attending project meetings. * Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations: Organize and prepare data for analysis. Perform standard descriptive and analytical statistical computations and prepare results in written report format. Assist in the planning and presentation of data and results. * Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications: Write research and evaluation reports including summarizing test results. Assist with the preparation of project reports and papers for dissemination and publication. * Administrative and Project Management: Communicate effectively with project agencies and other consumers on data collection needs and requirements. Assist in preparing grant applications. * Supervision/Staffing: Train and supervise students/staff in data collection, coding, entry, organization, and other protocol as needed. Required Qualifications: * Master's degree in public health, social work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Experience in research and program evaluation with human subjects research certification or ability to obtain certification. * Experience using MS Office (e.g., Excel, Word), and statistical software (e.g., SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, MAXQDA, NVivo). * Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to enter, organize, manipulate, and analyze data sets including use of federal, and other online data reporting systems. * Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to meet University of Iowa Fleet Services standards. * Educational preparation in statistical analysis. Desired Qualifications: * Familiarity and knowledge of public health/social service delivery systems and public health and substance abuse research and evaluation issues. * Experience with health disparities including familiarity with health issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, sex, rurality and rural and ethnic communities and ability to work with diverse populations * Experience with writing grant applications and reports, articles and manuscripts for publication using APA style. |
