Summary:
The pharmacy technician specialist position demonstrates a high level of expertise and skill in sterile compounding and cleanroom sterilization procedures. This role will be expected to lead cleanroom sterilizations across multiple locations in the health care system in addition to compounding sterile products under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The specialist will ensure compliance with USP <797>, provide staff oversite, and maintain clear communication with customers. Additionally they will lead technician training efforts, identify and execute process improvement opportunities, and will be involved in departmental strategic planning.

Working hours will rotate between days, evenings, and weekends.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares for, schedules, and leads cleanroom sterilizations across multiple hospital and clinic locations.
  2. Completes billing and thorough documentation for cleanroom sterilization customers.
  3. Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy cleaning or compounding services.
  4. Communicates with vendors as needed to trouble-shoot technology and or supply issues.
  5. Participates in sterile compounding, environmental monitoring, and batch release testing of category 2 and category 3 products.
  6. Receives, restocks, and rotates inventory. Completes cycle counts and expiration date management.
  7. Fulfills medication and supply orders for distribution to hospitals and clinics within and/or affiliated with the health-system. Ensures compliance of all shipments with temperature requirements (i.e., cold chain, room temperature).
  8. Trains other pharmacy technicians, develops training materials, and completes training documentation.
  9. Performs regular pharmacy technician operations responsibilities as needed.
  10. Operates independently on process improvement projects. Actively implements identified solutions.

Education Requirements:
* None required as long as other position qualifications are met.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
*CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
Professional Experience Requirements:

  • One year of pharmacy technician experience required.
  • One or more years of sterile compounding experience.
  • Familiarly with USP standards and regulatory compliance related to sterile compounding.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods (majority of of an 8-hour shift).
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to reach over head to access shelved product or for cleaning.
