COMHAR is a nonprofit community-based organization. Our mission is to provide health and human services that empower individuals, families, and communities to live healthier, self-determined lives. Currently we are seeking a Certified Peer Specialist at our Enhanced Outpatient Program location.

The Enhanced Outpatient Program is an outpatient behavioral health program that provides outpatient therapy, medication management and administration, peer support, and care coordination services to adults and some adolescents.

The Certified Peer Specialist works from a recovery framework within the team providing individual and/or group counseling using therapeutic interventions, cultural competence, and trauma-informed care to help individuals attain their recovery goals. The Certified Peer Specialist engages in a wide range of tasks to assist individuals in regaining control over their own recovery process. Tasks include but are not limited to engaging in 1:1 peer support session, connecting individuals with community supports, encouraging and facilitating harm reduction practices, participating and facilitating groups as assigned, and supporting with other tasks as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a role model to persons in recovery to inspire hope, share life experiences, and lessons learned as a person in recovery
  • Provides training and assistance to individuals in developing and practicing the skills identified and outlined in their recovery plan. Teaches the proactive use of positive coping strategies
  • Educate and engage individuals in the Wellness Recovery Action Plan process
  • Supports individuals in social skill building, vocational training and employment, community inclusion, and health and wellness, as well as soft-life skills to help individuals improve their quality of life
  • Introduce and link individuals to community resources and peer supports to promote community integration
  • Support the individual in seeking to connect/reconnect with family, friends, significant others and in learning how to improve or eliminate unhealthy relationships
  • Provide education and advocacy within the community that promotes awareness of mental health and co-occurring disorders while reducing barriers such as stigma and misconceptions
  • Provide training and assist in orientation of new employees to help staff support a peer culture that promotes recovery
  • Completes accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of all interactions with individuals
  • Develops and co-facilitates therapeutic group, specifically for individuals participating in the program's Medication Assisted Treatment services
  • Serve as a liaison to community harm reduction supports and promote harm reduction to individuals through a variety of methods
  • Actively participate in team meetings and provide perspective and support to staff in order to be supportive of a culture that promotes growth and recovery and reduces stigma
Requirements

Requirements:

  • HS/GED + Current PA Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification
  • Experience working with people who experience mental health and/or substance use challenges
  • 1 year experience of Mental Health direct service (paid or volunteer)
  • Valid PA State Criminal, FBI, Child Abuse Clearances
  • Familiarity with office systems like Microsoft or an Electronic Health Record system
