Job Summary

The Office of Scholarships -Financial Wellness is currently seeking a Student Financial Wellness Program Peer Coach to join their team of professionals.

Duties to include:

The University Financial Wellness Peer Coach will support and encourage student success among their peers. Peer Coaches will serve as program ambassadors providing personalized financial education and guidance to students through coaching sessions, empowering them to make informed financial decisions. Student Peer Coaches will attend coach training so that they are able to provide holistic support to Completion Grant and other grant recipients.

  • Provide one-on-one financial wellness coaching sessions to students, via in person, phone or zoom, offering guidance on budgeting, saving, credit management, student loan planning, and other financial topics.
  • Conduct outreach by making phone calls to schedule coaching sessions and promote program services, ensuring to input and maintain accurate data, cases, and session reports in our relationship management systems and departmental files, to track student interactions and program outcomes.
  • Create and distribute financial wellness resources, such as guides, worksheets, as well as online and social media content, to enhance accessibility and outreach.
  • Collaborate with university departments, including financial aid, student affairs, and academic advising, to provide comprehensive financial support services.
  • Perform general administrative tasks, including management of departmental emails and phone calls, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with university policies.
  • Assist with the planning, content development, and facilitation of events, webinars, workshops, tabling events, presentations, and other departmental initiatives on financial literacy topics relevant to college students.
  • Represent the department by engaging with students at events, webinars, workshops, tabling events, presentations, and online.
  • Develop innovative strategies and assist with all efforts related to increasing coaching participation rate, grant compliance, and student engagement.
  • Conduct research on trends and best practices in financial literacy education and coaching techniques with an aim to evaluate program effectiveness, provide feedback to supervisors, and recommend improvements to enhance student engagement and the impact of the Financial Wellness Program.

Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors to support the overall goals of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

At least 3 semesters of FIU work experience or related experience outside the University with satisfactory or higher from prior student appointment.

Requires a letter of recommendation from one prior supervisor.

Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.

Ability to work in a team setting.

Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Suites.

Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.

Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.

Knowledge of PC operations and specialized software programs, such as PantherSoft and Salesforce.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally, and in writing.

Possess a high sense of responsibility and customer service skills.

Ability to solve problems independently.

Organizational and time-management skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel.
  • A Money Essentials training course will be included as part of onboarding and must be completed in the first 15 days.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
