2025 Summer Intern - Department of Discovery Oncology

Department Summary

The Department of Discovery Oncology is seeking a creative, independent, and motivated scientist for a summer internship position. The goal of the Discovery Oncology department is to identify critical targets and pathways required to drive tumor progression and translate these observations into cutting-edge therapeutics that improve patients' lives. The successful candidate will utilize a variety of biochemical and cell biology techniques to explore targets in the expanding field of induced proximity. As part of the internship experience, the candidate will participate in a range of activities in the Discovery Oncology department as well as across the broader Genentech campus, gaining valuable insight into a potential career in biotechnology and drug discovery.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco (on-site only).

The Opportunity

• Design and execute experiments independently or in collaboration with staff scientists.

• Interpret and communicate results in small groups or in department presentation forums.

• Maintain accurate, detailed and timely records using an electronic notebook.

• Participate in Genentech internship program activities and events.

Program Highlights

• Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

• Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

• A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

• Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

• Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education:

• Must be pursuing a Master's Degree or PhD (enrolled student)

Required Majors:

• Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Cancer Biology or related degree.

Required Skills:

• Prior hands-on research experience in a biology lab is required

• Experience with mammalian cell culture.

• Experience with cell-based assays.

• Experience with biochemistry techniques.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $40.00-$45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
