The Airframe and Structures Engineering Directorate is seeking high-performing mechanical engineering interns that are interested in working on jet-powered, unmanned aerial drones used for tactical systems, weapon systems testing and warfighter training. Typical responsibilities:



  • Support engineering staff responsible for designing components manufactured from composite or metallic materials including component design for fluid systems, electrical systems, and mechanical integrating hardware.
  • Use CATIA computer aided design software to innovate designs, create 3D models and engineering drawings.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to determine drawing requirements that provide affordable design and tolerance studies to assure proper assembly.
  • May perform basic engineering calculations to assess design integrity.
  • May prepare and present design review material for internal peer reviews.
  • Interface with analysis engineers and manufacturing engineering to complete design tasks
  • Research, collect and analyze historical product data.
  • Research industry data and assist in the selection of components and integrating hardware.



DURATION:iSummer internship (approximately May/June or June - August)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:



  • In process of obtaining a BS or MS degree in Engineering.



WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Office and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines.
