JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences is searching for a full time Farm Machinery Operator (Farm) to join their team. Duties include:

  • Operate tractors and equipment to plow, disk, fertilize, plant, drill, mow, rake, ted, cultivate, cut, clean grain, fill silos, and spread solid and/or liquid manure, both in and between University farms
  • Operate more complex farm and harvesting equipment such as baler, pivot tongue mower-conditioner, self-propelled forage harvester, front-end loader, combination grain drying system, hay dryer, etc.
  • Weigh, mix, measure, and apply restricted and non-restricted use pesticides, following label requirements, legal requirements, and established practice
  • Operate field machinery in agricultural research situations, utilizing specialized operating techniques and parameters
  • Assist and direct the work of other employees as required
  • Erect blower pipe on a silo
  • Climb and enter silo; level silage as required
  • Monitor fill and distribution
  • Operate trucks, tractors, equipment and hand tools to load, transport, weigh and unload fertilizer, supplies, materials, grain, hay, straw, silage, etc.
  • Grease, check oil, gas, water, tires, etc. and make minor repairs and adjustments to tractors and equipment being operated
  • Refer major repairs to supervisor or mechanic
  • Operate College of Agriculture bus as required
  • Remove stones from fields, trim hedgerows; perform general clean-up, load and unload supplies and materials received
  • Perform simple maintenance, repair and renovation to buildings and special projects
  • Clean and paint equipment
  • Assist in assembling new equipment
  • Record gas, oil, and operations information in tractor log book daily

Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied farms training. Requires a Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A and Passenger Endorsement (P); without Commercial Restrictions E, L, O, and Z upon hire. Requires a Hazardous Materials (H), Tank (N), and Category 18 Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator's License within 90 days of hire.18 to 24 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule:8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Days Off:Saturday, Sunday

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TESTING FOR ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (49 CFR PART 40), AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS AS PER PA CODE 231.85. NOTE: THIS POSITION INCLUDES OVERTIME AS NEEDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE 17 OF THE TLU8 AGREEMENT.

NOTE: EMPLOYEE MUST BE ABLE TO WEAR A RESPIRATOR AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO MEDICAL CLEARANCE.
