Job Description

Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

As a Principal Databricks Architect, you will lead the Databricks platform, delivering exceptional services for projects and users. Your role includes fostering innovation, adopting cutting-edge technologies, and promoting inclusion and teamwork. This is a full-time role.

Job Responsibilities:
* Design and implement scalable data architectures using Databricks deployed on AWS at an enterprise-scale.
* Build integrations with AWS services, Azure and On Premise and Co-located data centers and additional applications including GitlLab, SAS, R Studio, SPSS, ArcGIS, Tableau, PowerBI, Box, Blaise, and Westat custom-build applications.
* Monitor and optimize the cost, performance and scalability of data products and infrastructure.
* Automate and manage provisioning needs, such as Databricks Cluster Policies, Unity Catalog, Secrets Management, Role Based Access Control model and permissions.
* Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting as well as support for change management, governance. compliance, internal audits and remediations.
* Develop and maintain data architecture standards, including data product interfaces, data contracts, and governance frameworks.
* Create repeatable processes for onboarding new projects and solutions and deploying upgrades and enhancements.
* Implement data governance and security measures to ensure data quality and compliance with FISMA, HIPAA, and other industry and regulatory standards.

Basic Qualifications:
* Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 10+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This includes a minimum of three years of experience working intensively in Databricks.
* Formal training or certification on data engineering concepts, at least one Professional-level Databricks Certification and Databricks AWS Platform Architect Accreditation and Platform Administrator Accreditations.
* A proven track record of administration, engineering, and operationalizing the Databricks platform in a production mode at scale for Data Engineering and Data Science use cases.
* Experience with data governance, security, and industry and regulatory compliance best practices.
* Experience as a Data Management Architect or similar role in an enterprise environment.
* Experience with managing AWS environment using both the console and infrastructure as code.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and effectively communicate with Senior Leaders and Executives
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL for data processing and analysis.
* AWS Solutions Architect or Data Engineer Certifications.
* Experience working in Federal government or as a public sector contractor
* Public Trust level Security Clearance
