Responsibilities
Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is searching for a Senior Software Engineer in Alexandria, VA to provide direct engineering support to the Office Under the Secretary of Defense for Reserach and Engineering. (OUSD(R&E)). The work location is located in Alexandria, VA at the Mark Center and is primarily tele-work going into the office on a case-by-case basis, approximately 3-5 times a month. This is subject to change. In-person support may increase. Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
- You will assess user and system requirements and recommend the best overall system architecture.
- Assist in the design the overall system. The contractor shall formulate system specifications in accordance with applicable standards and work with the site software engineering team to ensure that user requirements and specifications are met in the design of software systems.
- Design, code, install, and maintain systems. The contractor shall establish test requirements, plans, and execute testing to verify system design and performance; ensure system maintenance and maintain adequate software systems documentation.
- Prepare software system architectures and models to specify in detail operations to be performed by computer software. The contractor shall provide support for presentation, briefing, chart, and other office documentation.
- Continually assess the performance of software engineer teams, using an agile approach.
Qualifications
- 15 years of progressively responsible experience in Software Engineering.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
- Experience with test-driven development and CI/CD practices.
- Ability to develop and maintain web applications using modern frameworks.
- Proficiency in database technologies (SQL/NoSQL).
- Familiarity with cloud-native development and microservices.
- Ability to work independently and in collaborative team environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep experience with database design, data modeling, schema design, and tools like Erwin and Neo4j.
- Experience with NoSQL, Graph Databases, and performance optimization.
- Knowledge of RESTful API design, OpenAPI, Postman, and FastAPI.
- Familiarity with SDK development and GraphQL.
- Backend/full stack experience using Java, Flask, and Jinja2.
- Understanding of frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, Node.js, and Express.
- Exposure to data science, including pipelines, machine learning (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
- Scripting & automation experience.
- Working knowledge of Agile, DevOps/DevSecOps, and Cybersecurity.
- Experience with cloud platforms and services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Educational Requirements: Master's Degree in a recognized engineering, scientific and or technical, discipline that is relevant. Certifications Desired: DoD 8570 IAT level 3 (CompTIA Security+) compliant. Clearance Requirements: Current Secret Clearance to start.
