Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for UNC Health Physicians (UNCHP), a large and complex physician practice group affiliated with UNC Health. The COO is responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring financial sustainability, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. This role will oversee physician recruitment and physician outreach. Collaborating with operational leaders, this role delivers a positive and synchronized patient experience in all areas of scheduling and registration and provides oversight of the Virtual Practice program. This role will ensure efficient and effective delivery of high-quality patient care in all areas of oversight, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
1. Leads UNCHP patient experience by directing patient access strategies including the system contact center, registration and front-end operations.
2. Oversees physician recruitment and physician outreach functions. Ensures access, service, and outreach to referring providers and physician practices across the state.
3. Leads development of the Virtual Practice program and its continued evolution in support of UNC Health goals and initiatives.
4. Develop and implement a strategic vision for UNC Health Physicians that aligns with UNC Health's goals. Collaborate with leadership to execute initiatives and oversee operational planning and budgeting.
5. Lead operational excellence at UNCH Physicians ensuring efficient patient care, practice management, and administrative functions. Optimize resources for maximum productivity and cost-effectiveness. Drive continuous improvement for enhanced quality and patient satisfaction.
6. Develop and execute comprehensive financial plans and budgets. Track and analyze key financial metrics to ensure organizational sustainability and optimal performance.
7. Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for physicians and other healthcare professionals. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among physicians and administrative staff. Support physician development and leadership training.
8. Drive innovation and technology adoption to improve patient care and operational efficiency. Explore new opportunities for growth and expansion. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices.

Professional Experience Requirements:
* Requires a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience, with at least ten (10) years of management experience.

* Understands the overarching System operations and policies that guide the organization. Drives and develops innovative ideas and solutions with significance to the organization's future. Identifies problem areas and skill gaps proactively and addresses them appropriately. Excellent project management and change management skills for designing and implementing high priority System or business group initiatives in a complex environment.
