Rooted in North Minneapolis, PCYC ignites a spirit of inspiration, connection, and growth. We are committed to working creatively toward a bright future focused on education, art, equity, and justice for the youth and families of North Minneapolis and beyond. We strive to leverage the arts as a tool for community engagement and connection, fostering stability and inclusivity in an area that has long faced significant challenges.

PCYC serves the community through three dynamic programs: PYC Arts & Technology High School, PCYC after-school enrichment programs, and through the renovated and expanded Capri Theater. The Capri is a highly regarded arts, learning, and gathering place for students, emerging artists, established performers, community members, and audiences who come from across the city, state, country, and the world. We provide countless opportunities to create and implement ideas, to be together, and to experience, learn about, and produce art.

The Capri is a theater, gallery, and community space and offers arts programming for youth and community members, and performances by local artists, including Legends @ the Capri, Capri Glee! Adult Community Choir, CAST youth theatre program, and Summer Camp Capri, and partners with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minneapolis St. Paul Film Society, and other community partners, to bring more exceptional programming to audiences. The Capri also provides affordable rental space to support working artists, community-convenings, and relationship building on the Northside and metro community.

Wages and Benefits

$90,000 - $107,000 on an annual basis, depending on qualifications and experience; generous paid time off (PTO), plus 12 paid holidays; competitive health, dental, and vision insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA), and options for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). There is employer paid basic life with the option for additional coverage paid by the employee. The employer pays for Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance and long-term disability insurance. PCYC sponsors a retirement plan with 25% match on your first 4% and immediate vesting.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as PCYC's Director of the Capri provides an opportunity to bring the passion and vision necessary to support the Capri in continuing to strengthen and creatively expand its role at the center of arts, education, and community-building on the Northside. Responsibilities will include the following:

• Bringing artistic vision to the organization by planning, presenting, and evaluating innovative and successful programming to engage our community in the arts; nurturing and growing existing programs and launching new programs.
• Collaborating with the Capri General Manager and Capri Sales Manager to oversee theater productions, presentations, and facilities rentals for both PCYC and Capri clients, while expanding and maintaining Capri's client roster.
• Developing a strong and harmonious Capri work environment through effective leadership of full-time, part-time, student, and volunteer artistic, technical, rental, and marketing staff, and conducting periodic performance appraisals.
• Creating long-term financial stability for the Capri by developing and managing thorough, forward-thinking PCYC board-approved annual budgets.
• Working with the Executive Director and Development Director on identifying and developing new funding streams, while overseeing program evaluation metrics for the Capri.
• Collaborating with PCYC's program directors and external stakeholders, including cultural partners, staff, students, community organizations, and the local performing arts community, to direct and advance PCYC's creative, educational, and community service mission.
• Reporting regularly to the PCYC board of directors on the financial and artistic health of the Capri.
• Acting as a media spokesperson for the Capri when required.
• Overseeing the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices intended to ensure the safety of staff, students, patrons, and clients.
• Working with PCYC's Director of Finance and Operations to ensure safe and operational building structures, mechanical systems, and surrounding grounds.
• Collaborating with the Director of Communications to ensure the development and implementation of the Capri's marketing, branding, and public relations efforts.
• Growing PCYC and the Capri's presence in the region, state, and nation by cultivating and maintaining collaborative partnerships with other artists, cultural partners, funding entities, public officials, industry leaders, and local media.
• Advancing North Minneapolis and Twin Cities youth arts by serving as an artistic mentor to youth, overseeing the development and implementation of arts programming, and involving youth in Capri programming.

Who You Are

• You have a bachelor's degree and at least eight years of related experience.
• You may hold a master's degree in nonprofit or theater management, arts administration, or a related field.
• You bring at least five years of senior-level experience in a professional theater, performing arts center, special events center, conference center, or similar venue-preferably within an educational setting.
• You are committed to the concept of youth development through the arts and to the mission of PCYC.
• You have prior experience selecting, supervising, evaluating, and training employees, managing a team, and fostering a cooperative and inclusive work environment.
• You bring managerial expertise in technical production, events management, marketing, and budgeting or fiscal administration.
• You have a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and foundation officers.
• You possess a strong background in community relations and in forging strategic partnerships with external stakeholders.
• You are familiar with some or all of the following:

  • Theater safety and building maintenance.
  • Theater accessibility and accommodation services.
  • Video production and webcasting operations, including multiCAM live streaming.

• You excel in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
• You have strong attention to detail, a customer service mindset, and excellent organizational skills.
• You hold a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PCYC's driving record requirements.
