Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. Qualifications for Employment:

Education (Minimum Requirements):
Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Work or a related field

Employment Experience Preferred:
Experience in goal setting, educational and program support counseling with adults, preferably in a postsecondary school setting.

Pertinent Other:
Demonstrated organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse and multicultural population Basic computer competency
Knowledge and familiarity of local community services

Nature and Scope of Duties:
The basic responsibilities of the Student Advisor are to retain students in adult education through counseling, rapport building, connecting students with community services; help students to balance family, jobs, and school; respond to and work with students in crisis and teach students appropriate behaviors and responses to difficult situations through modeling and practicing skills with the students.

The Student Advisor reports to the Coordinator of Instructional Services or their designee. and performs the following duties:

* Monitor student progress, following up on attendance problems, helping the student to cope with barriers that may prevent program completion, and discontinuance from a program;
* Enforce policies and procedures outlined in the Student Handbook;
* Collaborate with faculty and administrators to provide effective services to students;
* Conduct Orientation for new students, and provide course schedules and Student Handbooks;
* Refer students to appropriate community services and or programs for services unavailable at the EOC;
* Submit all reports in a timely fashion;
* Provide support for other counselors' and student advisor's students, in the event of a counselor or student advisor absence;
* Participate in weekly Student Advisor and Instructional Department meetings;
* Conduct on -going academic counseling sessions with each student to determine his/her needs and goals;
* Maintain open communications with community agencies / resources;
* Establish and implement a professional development plan;
* Assist in the development and implementation of Center wide activities;
* Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Salary for the Student Advisor position is $47,000.
