General Description
Assists in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the transit garage and coach system.
Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college from an accredited college or university or technical trade school.
Requires two (2) years in transit maintenance with supervisory experience or closely related experience.

Ability to obtain a Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or Commercial Learner's Permit with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements within six months of hire
1+ years Experience in a Union environment or Union negotiation experience
1+ years of Maintenance Management Software Experience (Asset Works, Spear, etc.)
1+ years Advanced Time and Attendance (Kronos or similar)
EPA 608 Certification (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F (608) Federal License for Handling Refrigerants)
EPA 609 Certification
ASE Certification (e.g. A3 Manual Transmission, A4 Steering and Suspension, A5 Brakes, A7 AC)
OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.178 Powered Industrial Trucks (Forklift Compliance)
Associate Degree or Technical/Vocational Program Completion, Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Assists in managing the day to day operation of the garage; monitors road calls, attendance, overtime, parts needed, repairs on buses, safety concerns and any other issues that come up on a daily basis.
Provides daily leadership, guidance and motivation of team members.
Provides maintenance task management and staff scheduling support to Broward County's Transportation Department, for the continued operation of Transit services
Monitors and charts Road Calls and Repairs, oversees expenditures, and manages team to achieve optimum shop output.
Manages adherence and completion on Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Preventative Maintenance Deficiencies (PMD).
Assists in the preparation and documentation of the Departmental budget.
Assists in administration of various contracts for the agency including authorizing invoices for payment; approves p-card purchases of subordinates; attends various meetings (staff, supervisors, component manufacturers, bus manufacturer, safety, pre-bids for projects, computer software, vendors, other county agencies, FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation), FTA (Federal Transit Administration).
Writes various reports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually; analyzes different reports to gather data to forecast future repairs; assists in writing technical specifications for new buses, specifications for new shop equipment as well as expiring contracts.
Inspects the shop and work load and debriefs supervisor for amount of work completed and concerns he/she may have; meets with maintenance staff, if there is an issue with parts, assignments, instructions or other issues.
