The Senior Legal Support Professional, in addition to conducting traditional paralegal duties, collaborates with attorneys to provide legal services and support to the company. The role collaborates with attorneys to prepare for hearings, trials, and depositions, and manages legal correspondence and communications. The role drafts and edits correspondence, summaries, and other written materials under the guidance of attorneys. The role identifies, diagnoses, and recommends solutions to administrative issues independently, collaborates across disciplines, and demonstrates advanced project management skills, contributing to legal department performance and goals.

  • Assist and support attorneys on all aspects of federal, state, and administrative and regulatory legal matters in various jurisdictions.
  • Research and identify relevant rules and procedures in state, tribal, and United States courts (all levels), along with Federal and state environmental agencies.
  • Research and analyze resources such as statutes, regulations, and public records, along with the company's historical documents.
  • Manage legal matters in an electronic database, including (i) scheduling and docketing court, discovery, depositions and other litigation deadlines; (ii) preparation of status narratives; and (iii) organization of documents.
  • Coordinate all phases of written and electronic discovery for litigation matters, including (i) document collection, production, control, and organization; (ii) working through discovery requests and providing answers and documents to legal team; (iii) working with expert and lay witnesses (current and former employees); and (iv) coordinating with outside counsel and vendors.
  • Initiate internal legal holds, review and analyze responses, and collect and catalog of relevant documents.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with legal teams and employees in all departments and with outside counsel and provide timely responses and follow-through.
  • Play a significant role in departmental administrative initiatives, including redesign and simplification of legal support processes, licensing programs, and templates, and use of technologies to increase efficiencies.
  • Cultivate effective relationships, share knowledge, and demonstrate understanding of industry best practices.
  • Identify, diagnose, and recommend solutions to administrative issues independently, collaborate across disciplines, and demonstrate advanced project management skills, contributing to legal department performance and goals.

Education:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree and/or commensurate work experience is required.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in areas such as legal document preparation, administrative support, case management, and oil/gas or legal industry experience is preferred.

Certifications: Certified Paralegal or Certified Legal Assistant, a plus.
