Overview
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for the overall management, development, and growth strategies of the operations of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines. Direct oversight will include Cardo Vascular, Surgical Services, Transplant Center, John Stoddard Cancer Center. Indirect oversight will include Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Environmental Services, Food Services, Spiritual Care, Clinic Operations, Physician Support Services, Pediatric Therapy Services, Child Life Services, Public Safety/Security, Emergency Preparedness and Inpatient and Outpatient Rehab. Responsibilities
- Foster accountability at all levels of the organization. Establish a disciplined framework of goals, expectations, measurement, and consequences that will drive and reward employee behavior that supports the overall goals of service excellence and productivity.
- Develop a strong relationship and gain the confidence of the MARKET PRESIDENT, other members of the senior management team, the medical staff, and leaders within UPH.
- Gain the respect of the staff and the physicians, and specifically the management team, becoming the "go-to" person who can and does make decisions about difficult operational and management issues.
- Along with the other senior team members, provides the necessary leadership to meet and maintain the system's financial performance expectations.
- Develop and mentor senior and middle management enhancing the leadership team.
- Oversees operational assignments as assigned including but not limited to budgetary oversight, staff supervision (e.g., hiring, performance management, training), administrator on duty tasks, and other general management assignments for the business of the system. Assignments can be strategic or operational in nature and can include focus within UnityPoint Health-Des Moines and UPH.
- Place a singular focus on improving the overall patient experience. Be a true "champion" for service excellence in clinical quality and patient safety. Develop a measurably improved customer service environment for patients, families, physicians and others that will differentiate UnityPoint Health in the market. Regularly educate all employees on the linkage between service excellence, patient experience, increased volumes/revenues, overall financial health, and our FOCUS values.
- Guide and implement overall system and partner strategies and operational tactics with a focus on quality.
- Maintains and promotes a personal, professional philosophy of community involvement by participating in professional and community activities.
- Foster unity by prioritizing relationships with nursing and medical leadership in the delivery of care (e.g. service support of bedside care providers)
Qualifications
Education: Minimum 4-year degree from an accredited university is required Master's degree in business administration, health care management, or a related field is preferred Experience:
- 7 years of healthcare experience with progressive levels of leadership experience in hospital operations
- Demonstrated results in a large, complex health system in a competitive market
- Previous experience working with different physician operational models
