Position Highlights The department of Steward Observatory seeks to fill a part time position of a Custodian I (Housekeeping). This individual will be working in Safford, AZ, specifically Mt. Graham International Observatory. The selected candidate will be working three days a week and help carry the workload demands for each building.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Bedrooms and bathrooms: Dust, change bedding, sanitize, vacuum, clean windows, clean trash, clean and disinfect showers and tubs, toilets, sinks, mirror, stock bathroom, sweep, mop, buff floors.
    • Annual Shutdown: Clean walls, vacuum mattresses, bed frames, clean baseboards, light fixtures, wipe down inside closets and organize, shampoo carpets, strip and wax bathroom floors when needed, steam fixtures, clean under sinks and toilets.
  • Kitchen and dining areas: Wiping and sanitizing counters, washing and putting dishes away, cleaning stoves and ovens, cleaning small appliances (toasters, coffee makers, microwaves), cleaning inside and outside refrigerators, tops and underneath, stocking, oiling cupboards, clean windows, sweep, mop, buff, clear trash.
    • Annual Shutdown: Take everything out of cupboards and wipe out and oil, organize and discard what's broken or outdated, pull out refrigerators and stoves and clean under and sides and put back.
  • Lobbies, entries, offices, control rooms, lounges, living rooms:
    Dust, oil wood, sanitize, vacuum, sweep, clear trash, clean windows, mop, buff, stock (Kleenex, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes) sweep exterior areas.
    • Annual Shutdown: Shampoo furniture and carpets, clean walls, wipe office furniture, strip and wax if necessary.
  • Public Restrooms: Disinfecting sinks and toilets, stocking, sanitizing, sweep, mop, buff, clear trash, clean mirrors.
    • Annual Shutdown: Steam fixtures and toilets, wipe down walls, strip and wax when needed.
  • Extras: upper floors (vacuum, mop, walls, vacuum moths, sanitize rails, clear trash)
    Silo's (vacuum, mop, clear trash, sanitize)
    Dog houses (vacuum, mop, clear trash, sanitize)
    Clean room (vacuum and mop)
    Connex (windows, vacuum, mop, sanitize, clear trash)
    Mechanic shops (vacuum and mop)
    Stairs (vacuum, mop, sanitize rails)
    Elevators (sanitize, vacuum, mop)
    Annual Shutdown: Stripping and waxing floors as needed, shampoo carpets as needed, cleaning walls.

Physical Requirements:

  • Working at an altitude of 10,000 feet.

Please note:
We are required to drive in extreme
weather conditions, and are required to put snow chains on vehicle. Low
maintenance is required on vehicles (check oil, tire pressure, lights,
fuel when needed, wash vehicle and detail inside vehicle). Load vehicle
with supplies and laundry to take on site, unload dirty laundry when
back to base-camp.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of housekeeping experience, including making beds, cleaning restrooms, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, shampooing carpets, cleaning windows, and collecting trash.
