HHMI is focused on supporting and moving science forward in a variety of different ways ranging from conducting basic biomedical research, empowering educators, inspiring students, developing the next generation of scientists - even stretching into film and media production. Our Headquarters is in the greater Washington, DC metro area and is home to over 300 employees with expertise in investments, communications, digital production, biomedical sciences, and everything in between. The work housed here supports and augments the groundbreaking research conducted in HHMI labs across the nation. Summary:
HHMI's People and Culture department is comprised of several dynamic teams that support our employee population, including the Talent Management team and the Learning and Organization Development (L&OD) team -

  • Talent Management leads the effort in recruiting and hiring the talent needed to progress HHMI's mission and continue our important work of moving science forward through research and operations.

  • Learning and Organization Development seeks to foster employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, and belonging for all HHMI employees across all locations in alignment with our values.

As the Intern, you will join both of these dedicated teams for the summer and work alongside them on various departmental projects, initiatives, and tasks.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) internship that will report to our headquarters office in Chevy Chase, MD three days (Tuesday-Thursday) per week and work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.

If selected for an opportunity, interns are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of the internship (12 weeks over the summer from mid-late May to early-mid August).

  • This position will be compensated at a rate of $17.50-$20.00/hour commensurate with education, skills, and experience.

What you'll do:

Talent Management

  • Learn how to craft engaging job postingsfor our careers page, job boards, and social media.

  • Learn how to screen resumes to identify suitable candidates for job opportunities.

  • Assist with scheduling interviewsand coordinating with candidates and hiring teams.

  • Assist with maintaining and updating the applicant tracking system.

  • May have the opportunity to participate in and support recruitment-related events.

Learning and Organization Development

  • Learn about designing and delivering employee training workshops.

  • Conduct research around best practices in learning and organization development.

  • Assist with testing and updating training materials within the learning management system.

  • Assist in the design and development of engaging eLearning content

  • Support employee engagement initiatives and other relevant projects.

What you bring:
  • Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program in a relevant field of study is required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.

  • Enthusiasm to learn, grow professionally, and be mentored.

  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and capacity for creative problem-solving.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.

  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
