Job Summary

A Master Electrician is a highly skilled and experienced technician who is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of machinery and equipment. Master Electrician typically has a deep understanding of the principles of Electrical and Automation Systems and how they apply to different types of machines. They are also able to use a wide range of tools and diagnostic equipment to identify and fix problems. They can understand, interpret, and execute with exactness, instructions given in both verbal and written form. A Master Electrician performs all types of electrical jobs throughout the plant. Electrical jobs include installation of equipment and machinery, as well as reactive, predictive, and preventative maintenance routines of electrical equipment and machinery used in cement production and manufacturing. Works closely in support of the production department and with other members of the maintenance/electrical departments. Trains (and acts as a mentor to) other Electricians. Works with contractors, when necessary. A Master Electrician also:



  • Works with various types of equipment, including, but not limited to: (i) Drag Conveyors; (ii) Conveyor Belts; (iii) Apron Chains/Feeders; (iv) Stacker; (v) Reclaimer; (vi) Diverter Gates; (vii) Gearboxes; (viii) Weigh Feeders; (ix) Ball Mills/Horizontal Mills; (x) Kiln/Preheater/Cooler; (xi) Grinding Rollers; (xii) Hydraulic Systems; (xiii) Lubrication Systems; (xiv) Separators; (xv) Bucket Elevators; (xvi) Conveying Systems (e.g., Pumps & Compressors); (xvii) Screw Conveyors; (xviii) Air Slides/Aeration Systems; (xix) Pneumatic Compressors; (xx) Blowers; (xxi) Packer Machine/Palletizer; (xxii) Spouts; (xxiii) Dust Collectors; (xxiv) Forklifts, Manlifts, Scissor Lifts, and Hoists; (xxv) Cranes, including rigging techniques & best practices; and (xxvi) Laser Alignment.
  • Works with various types of electrical equipment, including, but not limited to: (i) Low, Medium, and High Voltage Relays, Transformers, Motors, VFD, and MCC; (ii) AC/DC equipment; (iii) PLCs; (iv) Resistors; (v) Electronic Boards; and (vi) Thermocouples.
  • Examines and diagnoses problems and performs repairs according to accepted methods.
  • Collects data for predictive and preventative maintenance, as well as performs these types of maintenance activities, as required.
  • Inspects equipment that has been reported as malfunctioning and conducts repairs, as needed.
  • Disassembles components and inspects parts to determine cause(s) of failure.
  • Adapts procedures, processes, equipment, and techniques to solve complex repair issues.
  • Uses a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Maintains adequate work records of all performed repairs/maintenance.
  • Regularly completes WAEs and Take 5s prior to beginning work.
  • Participates in the plant on-call rotation.
  • Works overtime.
  • Develops, reviews, trains on and follows Standard Work Element Sheets.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement and Safety Projects destined to improve plant results.
  • Performs other duties, as required. See attached list for of Essential Duties for examples of the types of work this position may perform throughout the year. If unfamiliar with items in essential duties, has ability to (and is willing to) quickly and efficiently learn all necessary information.


Job Responsibilities

General



  • Performs inspection, troubleshooting and reparation of any electrical and automation equipment according to preventive maintenance schedule and notes any defects.
  • Utilizes fitting instruments and diagnostic equipment to fix, introduce, supply, and test volt and underneath electrical circuits, hardware, and apparatuses.
  • Performs PDMA test, static, dynamic and must be able to interpret the results of the motor status.
  • Performs fire systems FIKE, CO2 injection and Deluge system inspection and reparation.
  • Reads and works from electrical diagrams in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plant and quarry electric equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be skilled at Arc flash training, Wire marking, pulling wires and cables, Conduit bending, Basic motor lubrication, Terminations, and modification of circuits.


Circuits



  • Repairs and troubleshoots circuits.
  • Dismantles, inspects, repairs, replaces, or adjusts faulty parts, and wiring on electrical equipment.


Motors



  • Performs motor refurbishmentaccording to the OEM Standards.
  • Performs brush replacements, measures strength of springs, replaces brush holders, and adjusts and sets new brushes. This includes equipment with Low, Medium, and High Voltage.


Power



  • Performs preventive maintenance on 4160 power distribution, switches, and transformer (6400 KVA).
  • Has proven knowledge of the National Electrical Code. Must have experience and proficiency working with AC single phase and three phase systems (416OV, 48OV, and 11OV), DC solid state drives, VFD drives and motor generator sets.
  • Performs VFD, inspection, troubleshooting and reparations, including electronic boards and power, DV, AC in low and medium voltage (GE, Yaskawa, ABB, Toshiba, TMEIC, Allen Bradley).
  • Performs isolating test on medium voltage cables, transformers, and main switches.
  • Performs electronic, mechanical relays inspection, troubleshoots.
  • Performs medium voltage motor starters, rheostats, and synchronous motors inspection.
  • Performs inspection and reparation of UPS system.


Calibrations



  • Be able to run Calibrations, trouble shoot and verify with patron gas the CEMS and process analyzers in K1 & K2.
  • Be able to troubleshoot, install, configure, calibrate, or verify any process transmitter. As well as give condition in PLC to avoid a stoppage because an interlock. Instrumentation included: RTD, TC, Pressure, Flow, Current, LVDT, 4-20mA transmitters, RTD-4-40mA converter.


Weigh Feeders



  • Performs weigh feeder controllers' inspection, configuration, troubleshoot.
  • Performs load cells, encoders inspection.
  • Performs weight rollers alignment.
  • Performs Miltronics, Siemens, Merrick, Pfister, Schenck, inspection, calibration, and verification. Including but not limited to, scales, weight bins, impact scales.


Automation



  • Performs control troubleshoot and modification accordingly, for example, finding signals, getting trends, and analyzing.
  • Performs transmitters installation, including programing or calibration.
  • Performs PLC input signal complete configuration. Including the configuration on the field and the PLC.
  • Performs PLCs (programmable logic controller) and digital drives/control systems inspection.


Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required, associate degree or Industrial Electrical, Automation Diploma, or equivalent certification through the US Military, with emphasis on Industrial electrical and Automation systems preferred.
  • 5-7 years electrical maintenance experience in industrial operations required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in aggregate, cement, or heavy industrial operations preferred
  • Electrical certification or license, or ability to obtain credentials.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and automation principles.
  • Proficient in the use of tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Working Conditions

  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise and working outdoors.
  • Performs work regularly on platforms and towers up to 200 feet in height.



Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Working days and nights according to the schedule.
  • A job involves walking or standing for extended periods of time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen, to communicate with employees/visitors.
  • Must be physically able to perform essential duties of the position properly and efficiently.

    • Ability to lift upwards of 25lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally.
    • Ability to work out of man lift or crane basket at various heights.
