Job Summary

The Financial Analyst III position is vital to maintaining the department's financial health and operational integrity. Under the supervision of the Supervising Financial Analyst IV, this role collaborates with the Operations Finance Manager and the Department CAO to provide comprehensive financial oversight, supporting the department's growth and success.

This position is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, reconciling the General Ledger to the Project Portfolio Management (PPM) system in Aggie Enterprise, and processing cost transfers while ensuring compliance with University policies. It also supports the implementation of financial systems like Aggie Enterprise, mentors Financial Analyst II staff, and participates in special projects aimed at improving financial operations. Additionally, this role provides backup for departmental financial reporting and fiscal management of the 340B HTC Program, overseeing $20M+ in revenue and expenses. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or closely related field or equivalent experience/training.
  • Several years of previous experience in a substantially similar role required.
  • Financial and business management skills and experience to perform extensive in-depth budgetary and financial analyses.
  • Analytical skills to anticipate/identify problems, perform research to resolve such problems, and develop creative solutions.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles with diverse fund restrictions, fund accounting and research-related accounting.
  • Knowledge of budgetary cycles and practices, personnel/payroll practices, business agreements, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to accurately calculate, manipulate and adjust data related to budgetary and financial activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience presenting, orally and in writing, complex administrative and technical issues and proposed solutions, including composing and editing documents and correspondence for accuracy, consistency of format, spelling and grammar, language and professional appearance and style.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using advanced features of MS Excel to perform detailed analyses including Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs and creating charts and graphs as well as word processing, presentation, database, e-mail, and web-based software and automated on-line financial and payroll/personnel systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or closely related field.
  • Experience with UC Davis automated financial, personnel and payroll systems: Aggie Enterprise, UCPath, Cognos, AggieExpense, etc. Experience handling sensitive or confidential information or situations.

Work Environment

  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
