Equipment Reliability Technician performs equipment lubrication, contamination control, inspection and proactive maintenance activities for all mechanical systems including interpreting oil analysis results, ultrasound readings and alarms. Routinely engages in all methods and technologies of predictive maintenance, which include, but are not limited to oil analysis, ultrasound and vibration.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: |
- Follows the shop oil Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), collects and labels oil for outside analysis.
- Performs (without assistance) draining and cleaning of reservoirs, oil changes, documenting incorrect oil levels, changing filters and desiccant dryers on reservoirs and any anomalies.
- Uses understanding of oil, grease appurtenances, and best practices to perform preventative maintenance of equipment and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Collects data (without assistance) for ultrasound and vibration and uploads to database and performs an initial analysis of the data.
- Reads and interprets technical documents such as original equipment manufacturer service manual, lubrication recommendations and vibration limits.
- Performs basic mathematical functions to interpret alarms, calculate lubricant inventory and calculate re-lubrication quantity considerations.
- Works effectively with limited supervision.
- Presents work order findings along with the failure mode and potential causes to other members in the Department.
- Prepares written reports or logs on any discrepancies or conditions found during corrective, predictive or planned maintenance.
- Performs other duties and projects as required at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

Required Experience: |
Two (2) years of relevant experience in a heavy industrial environment |
A strong fundamental understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and circulating systems operation, and contamination control and maintenance functions. |
Basic knowledge of gears, bearings, pistons, oils, grease, vents, breathers, and filtration. |
Basic experience with mechanical system troubleshooting |
Minimum Education Requirements: |
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate |
Required Skills: |
Must be proficient in using Windows, Microsoft Office, and the Internet. Utilizes the Maximo Computerize Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, document, record labor, and logs. |
Knowledge of lubrication best practices |
Knowledge and ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics |
Basic knowledge of electrical safety |
Required Licenses & Certifications: |
Must obtain and maintain current within 18 months from date of hire, a certification from ICML in Machinery Lubrication Technician (MLT1) and an Ultrasound Level 1. |
Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License. |
Constructive participation in the Authority's Forklift and Overhead Crane Training Programs is required. |

Subject to indoor/outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures. |
Subject to noise, vibration, and to hazards from a variety of physical conditions. |
Subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, chemicals, sewage, activated sludge, lubricants, and other cutting fluids and requires wearing personal protective equipment. |
Work is performed in a heavy industrial environment, at pumping and treatment locations, in biologically contaminated underground facilities, including wet wells, electrical manholes, treatment process tanks, around spiders, rodents and mosquitoes, and on high places such as roofs, cranes, catwalks, and towers. |
Must meet the physical demands of confined space entry. |
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. |
Must be able to climb a ladder. |
Must have ability to be certified to wear full/half face respirator |
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Preferred Experience: |
Preferred knowledge of the SDT 270 device for ultrasound and Emerson's Machinery Health 2140 for vibration. |
Preferred Education Requirements: |
Certification from ICML in Machinery Lubrication Technician (MLT1) and an Ultrasound Level 1 |
Preferred Skills: |
Preferred understanding of fundamental lubrication concepts including but not limited to viscosity, NLGl's V.I., AW, EP, R&O, ISO cleanliness codes, Beta Filter ratings. |
