Job Summary

The UCSF Brain Tumor Center Preclinical Therapeutic Testing Core generates brain tumor-bearing animals and conducts preclinical anti-tumor agent trials for both UCSF investigators and external non-UCSF clients. The Core offers a variety of brain tumor models and complete set of services that include consultation regarding preclinical experimental design, establishing brain tumor models, administration of experimental agents, monitoring tumor growth and interpretation of experimental results.

Highly motivated individuals are being recruited.

The Laboratory Assistant will assist laboratory maintenance including inventory of lab supplies and equipment. The incumbent will clean and maintain liquid nitrogen tanks and -80 degree freezer where the brain tumor sample archives are stored.

The laboratory Assistant will prepare cell culture media, reagents and solutions from formulas for research; set up simple apparatus for laboratory experiments; clean and decontaminate cell culture incubator, hoods and equipment; and keep laboratory space clean and sanitary.

The Laboratory Assistant will set up and clean a mouse surgery suite and surgical tools, supplies and equipment for intracranial procedures in the animal facility.

Prior familiarity with these techniques is a plus but not required, and a willingness to learn new techniques is expected.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $24.77 - $29.49 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications


  • High School graduation and three years of laboratory experience, or two years of college, including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and two years of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education/experience;
  • Knowledge of use of Microsoft Excel and Word Software
  • Knowledge of percentage calculation
  • Strong organizational skill
  • Excellent verbal and written Communication skill

  • Mouse handling
  • Previous laboratory experience
