Hiring Incentive: $1,000

$250 on first pay and then $750 on first pay following successful completion of 6 months.

Must still be employed, full/part-time, and in good standing at the time of each payout.

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking mission-minded Associates to join us as full time (37.5 per week) Medical Assistant to serve our patients at our Akron and Canton Health Centers.

SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant will provide exceptional patient care, adhering to the policies of PPGOH and maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor. The Medical Assistant will provide comprehensive health education, assist in various medical procedures, and perform essential administrative tasks. Must ensure superior patient care and outstanding customer service, focusing on direct services in family planning and comprehensive primary care. This position requires a strong commitment to quality healthcare, a passion for excellent customer service, and the ability to interact positively with clients both in person and over the phone.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Clinical Duties:



  • Medical Waste Processing: Efficient in handling and disposing of both chemical and non-chemical medical waste.
  • Patient Vital Signs: Accurately collect and record patient vital signs.
  • Venipuncture and Lab Tests: Skilled in performing venipuncture and conducting lab tests (urinalysis, rapid covid/flu and strep) and administering injectables or nebulizer breathing treatments under nurse practitioner guidance.
  • Minor procedures: Performs or assists with minor medical procedures such as ear irrigation, or minor wound or injury care.
  • Empathy and Patient Interaction: High-level empathy skills for interacting with patients who may be experiencing pain or emotional stress.
  • Room Preparation: Ensure cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms.
  • Assisting During Examinations/Procedures: Provide support to nurse practitioners during patient examinations, including pelvic exams.
  • Patient Instruction: Aid in educating patients about medications and procedures, supplementing the guidance of nurse practitioners, nurses and physicians.
  • Medical Terminology: Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology relevant to family planning and primary care.



Administrative Duties:



  • Patient Navigation and Referrals: Respond to patient inquiries and have knowledge of referral resources. Assist with patient communications outside of appointments. This may include troubleshooting outside inquiries prior to relaying the information to the nurse practitioner, relaying messages from the nurse practitioner to the patient or outside entities regarding test results, referrals, prescriptions, or DME orders, assisting with outside referrals and obtaining outside records.
  • Appointment Scheduling: Organize and schedule patient appointments.
  • Medical History Management: Update and review patient medical histories.
  • Precepting New Hires: Support training duties for new staff.
  • Data Entry Accuracy: Detail-oriented approach to accurately entering patient data in charts.
  • Insurance Knowledge: Basic understanding of insurance processes related to coverage and submissions.
  • Confidentiality and Reporting: Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to mandatory reporting regulations specific to Ohio.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience as a Medical Assistant, or relevant qualifications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and healthcare software.



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE



  • Experience in a healthcare setting is required.
  • Family planning, urgent care, or primary care experience is preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
